The Insurance Agents of Tampa Bay made a $30,000 gift to the Baldwin Risk Partners School of Risk Management and Insurance and will set up an endowed scholarship for students. The IATB board presented the gift to USF officials during its Big ‘I’ Golf Tournament.

The Florida SBDC at USF will host the 2023 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon on May 10. This year's keynote speaker is Johnny Crowder, a touring musician, entrepreneur, and mental health advocate, focused on moving forward in life and business. Read more.

Cross-Cultural Leadership Certificate registration open


The Cross-Cultural Leadership Certificate is a free course where learners develop an understanding of cultural competence in today's workplace. The class is a self-paced seven-module program where participants will learn to honor and value the differences of others. Read more.

Cryptocurrency conference to discuss global finance


The USF Sarasota-Manatee campus is co-hosting a two-day conference examining the role of cryptocurrency and the future of global finance. The free program, set for April 20-21, will feature panel discussions by academic, financial, governmental, legal, and other experts. Read more.

USF Summer Grant Writing Workshop starts June 5


Registration is open for the 2023 Summer Grant Writing Workshop, an eight-week virtual certificate program designed to help early career faculty and doctoral students craft compelling funding proposals and secure funding. Registration closes May 31. Read more.

Kelly Cowart, an associate professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was quoted in a CH Media news story about Swiss chocolatier Lindt’s effort to increase its racial diversity in advertising and marketing. 


Marvin Karlins, a professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, had the article, “Verbal Indicators of Deception,” accepted for publication in the Journal of Forensic Sciences and Criminal Investigation.


Po-Lin Wang, an assistant professor in the Baldwin Risk Partners School of Risk Management and Insurance, co-authored the article, “Mortality postponement and compression at older ages in human cohorts,” published in PLOS ONE. 


Kerry Myers, an associate professor of instruction at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was an expert contributor to the Wallet Hub article “CLUE Report Guide.” 


Russell Clayton, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was named the 2021-2022 Muma Outstanding Teaching Award honoree.

Byron Shinn (‘79, BA, Accounting) has joined the board of directors of All Star Children’s Foundation in Sarasota.


Steve Doe (‘86, BS) received the Category Manager Award for the second consecutive year during JMX Brands’ annual awards ceremony.


Lexy Scarpiello (‘16, BS, Marketing) landed a new role as a senior manager in digital visual merchandising at sportswear giant Adidas. She is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.


Mike Woodruff ('13, MBA, Management & Information Systems) is now a senior vice president of product services and operations at iHeartMedia. He worked for iHeartMedia's Tampa Bay radio stations while in the USF MBA program and now works on the nationwide iHeartRadio platform.


Daniel P. Reininga (‘87, MBA) retired as president and CEO of Lake Shore Bancorp, Inc., a role he has served in since 2011.


Annmarie Collins (‘21, BS) is starting a new position as a technology specialist at the Academy of the Holy Names.

Allison Crick-Smith, a marketing PhD student, received the Hunt / Deitz / Hansen Best Doctoral Paper Award at the National Conference in Sales Management held March 29-31 in Norfolk, Virginia.

The USF American Marketing Association chapter returned from the International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans where they placed No. 7 among 330 collegiate chapters in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The group also placed first in hosting a marketing week, first in the T-shirt design competition, third in the social impact video, and fourth in diversity leadership.
