Dear Residents –

Boy, March certainly did come in like a lion! Let’s all hope it goes out like a lamb. While we had a rather mild winter, if you are like me, then you are anxiously waiting for the longer daylight hours and warmer weather of spring. And, with only 17 days to go, we can see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

Here are some key dates you may want to make note of for this month:

March 7th is another important date to make note of. It is when the Town Board will be considering adopting the Orangetown Comprehensive Plan. This project has been in the works for almost two years and included community participation through outreach events, surveys, written comments and public hearings. The final draft of the plan reflects the results of these cumulative efforts and serves as a general road map for the future of Orangetown.

Unfortunately, tonight’s weather is not looking promising, with precipitation predicted to start around 5:00 pm and going through to 4:00 pm on Saturday. Precipitation will be a mixture of snow, sleet, rain and hail over the 23 hours, so please, if you have to go out, use precaution.

Fortunately, Sunday’s weather is looking better for the 16th Annual Penguin Plunge. If you are looking for something to do between 12 pm and 2 pm on Sunday, please join me at Memorial Park in Nyack and show your support for those willing to brave the waters of the Hudson River to raise funds for seriously ill children.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

This past weekend, Supervisor Kenny attended the Emerald Ball at the Pearl River Hilton. This annual event kicks off the Rockland County St. Patrick’s Day season. Congratulations to Hibernian of the Year, Laurence DeGennaro, Businesspersons of the year, Breda Lyon and Catherine Levins, the 2023 Grand Marshal, Thomas Leavey, Aide to the Grand Marshal, Dennis Toal, and Parade Commander, Sheriff Louis Falco. Supervisor Kenny is looking forward to seeing everyone on Parade Day.

Supervisor Kenny got to party with a purpose at the Rockland Negro Scholarship Fund Annual Gala. Congratulations to the honorees, Dr. Icilma Fergus-Rowe and Rev. Weldon McWilliams, IV, whose great work & leadership exemplifies the theme of this year’s event, Engage, Encourage & Educate!

Supervisor Kenny attended a press conference at Town Hall this morning in support of special legislation which would allow Orangetown to establish a Land Preservation Fund, a promise from her 2019 campaign. Special thanks to Senator Bill Weber and Assemblyman John McGowan for sponsoring this legislation which, if passed, will provide Orangetown with an important tool toward the preservation of significant town properties.

Do not become a victim of fraud. Legitimate businesses will never ask you to pay a bill with a gift card.

Gift cards are a popular and convenient way to give someone a gift. They’re also a popular way for scammers to steal money from you. That’s because gift cards are like cash. If you buy a gift card and someone uses it, you probably cannot get your money back. Gift cards are for gifts, not payments.

Anyone who demands payment by gift card is almost always a scammer. If you're not sure hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency.
