La Quinta High School Named Unified Champion School
La Quinta High School was recently named a Unified Champion School by the Special Olympics Southern California for its unified physical education program that brings general education and special education students together for physical education activities.

The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Program promotes social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities affecting systems-wide change. The program equips students to foster climates of acceptance in sports, in the classroom and throughout the school. GGUSD Board Recognizes March Employees of the Month
Kudos to GGUSD's March Employees of the Month including David Moreno, a receptionist in the district office and Tricia Chinn, Principal of the Special Education Center at Mark Twain and the Adult Transition Program at Jordan.

Students Who Inspire: Read about Santiago's Hazel Coronado and LQ's Emily Dang
During a virtual ceremony on March 4th, Santiago High School student Hazel Coronado was named the Orange County Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year, a recognition that awarded her a $5,000 college scholarship. Coronado is the school’s Senior Class President and has been a member of Boys and Girls Club for 11 years.

The Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year program recognizes teens who demonstrate outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence and a dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. Coronado is Orange County’s representative for the state competition which takes place in April.  

Coronado has been accepted to University of California, Berkeley and plans to major in political science. She hopes to serve her community by pursuing a career as an immigration or constitutional lawyer.

La Quinta High School Student Emily Dang earned second place in the county level of the National 2022 Poetry Out Loud competition which had more than 500 students participating. This week, Marcus Omari from Poetic Reform Party and Elizabeth AB Miller, program manager for Arts Orange County visited La Quinta to present Emily with an award in recognition of her second-place win.

GGUSD Celebrates New Family Resource Centers
Last week, GGUSD's Board of Education, district and school staff celebrated the opening of new Family Resource Centers at Brookhurst Elementary and Irvine Intermediate. GGUSD opened 4 new Family Resource Centers this year to increase the level of care provided to families. FRC's connect families to an array of resources in areas like emergency needs, food, health care, housing, immigration, legal resources, mental health counseling, and more.
Hundreds Attend GGUSD Job Fair
Hundreds attended GGUSD's Job Fair on March 10 which showcased a variety of wonderful openings in our award-winning district, including food service worker, school community liaison, and instructional aide, to name a few. Basketball Buddies
Rancho Alamitos students returned to Bryant Arts Academy last week to host a basketball clinic for the elementary school students. Bryant Bears enjoyed the outdoor fun with high school students and some connected with siblings and friends.
