SCRC'S Caregiver of the Month Spotlight: Olga
Help us celebrate Olga as our January Caregiver of the Month! Olga is a college professor, a wife, and a mother to her 17-year-old daughter. She is also the caregiver for her 92-year-old mother who is elderly and frail. At the beginning of the pandemic, her mother had an accident at home and broke her hip. Due to this accident Olga had to move in with her mother and begin a new life as a full-time caregiver. Because of COVID-19, Olga was conveniently teaching online allowing her time to care for her mother.
“Becoming a working caregiver has been a difficult task to accomplish. I had to learn to manage my caregiving duties while making sure my family did not feel abandoned. I was lucky my daughter is not a child anymore and doesn’t need me as much, but I could tell my caregiving responsibilities took a toll on her and my husband. SCRC has helped me understand that caregivers need support from others and that we must make time for us. Between work, family, and my mother, I was going down a dark path in which negative emotions were taking over. Thanks to SCRC for showing me how to balance my life!”
