Greetings!
I feel very fortunate to have an office view of the Morgan Horse Ranch. I love watching the comings and goings of the rangers, park visitors, and volunteers… and of course the horses! In honor of National Park Week (April 22 - 30) I’d like to spotlight our wonderful neighbors at the Morgan Horse Ranch (including our newest herd addition, Moon!). Please read our new ‘Voices at the Seashore’ article below, written by PRNSA volunteer Ellen Greenblatt, to learn about the important role the Morgans play at Point Reyes.
Community Support & Connection
Thanks to an uptick in visitor interest and generous donations, the past two years have been a time of change and growth at the Morgan Horse Ranch (MHR). We invite you to help us strengthen this program by making a donation today.
Another significant time at the ranch was January 2023. The Ranch said goodbye to Elvis, who for years had been the backbone of the herd. Please enjoy this sweet video that was created to remember him. The remaining herd—Mira, Honcho, Knight Hawk, Gentry, and Moon—continue his legacy through their support of daily park operations.
The horses welcome and engage the public, assist with search and rescue operations, and additionally, they offer a sense of peace to our rangers who experience challenges in their day-to-day law enforcement jobs.
Funds Needed for 2023
As the MHR program continues to grow, we invite you to make a gift to support this culturally significant program. We need to raise $26,000 to help support the annual maintenance, feed, and farrier service costs that go with running the program. In addition, if you would like to make a larger investment in the MHR program, please reach out to me to learn more of how a legacy-type gift could benefit this program.
Please be sure to stop by the MHR when you are next in Point Reyes. Come see for yourself how the horses bring joy to so many. You can also wave hello to the Morgans at the Butter and Eggs Parade in Petaluma tomorrow (Saturday, April 22)!
Warmly,
Heather Clapp
