Tuesday, August 29 | Drop-In Discussion:

The Stories of Peter

Our summer minister, Peter House, regularly engages us through stories of his personal experiences and what is to be learned from them. Did one of them particularly resonate with you? You will recall “Making Peace with Who You Are,” “Sacred Objects,” “Capturing Bugs in a Jar,” “You Didn’t Live with Her,” “Bucket List” and others. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

Sunday, Sept. 10 - In-Church Drop-In Discussion: Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT.

Artificial intelligence enables machines to reason, using data on a scale individual human beings could never process. ChatGPT is a form of AI that interacts with people in human-like terms. What are we to make of this? Tim Mullins, who teaches computer science, will be the presenter. Please bring your cell phone. We will meet at 9:15am in the Chalice Room. Drop-in discussions will continue through the church year on the first Sunday of the month..

Joys & Sorrows

Please send your Joys and Sorrows to be read at our Sunday Worship service to JoysandSorrows@uuroc.org.

A joy from Tess McFarland-Porter: For the UU congregations that welcome and support young adults! Elizabeth, our youngest, is happily settling into the faith community at All Souls Church in Washington DC, where she's moved to begin a new job as a public elementary school music teacher.

A joy from the Gilberts: Sixty years ago today Joyce and Dick Gilbert were at the March on Washington and heard Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech" in person. Let's keep marching!

Note: When you email a joy or sorrow to us, you are giving us permission to read it aloud at our Sunday service and possibly publish it in this weekly email. Thank you!
