Student Leadership Updates
Gabriella Cale, an undergrad biology major with a chemistry minor, has been elected USUSA College of Science Senator for the 2022-23 academic year. Cale succeeds 2021-22 Science Senator Jonathan Mousley, who is completing his term this spring.

Congratulations on your impressive achievements! We invite you to celebrate your achievements during Commencement Activities Thursday, May 5: Assemble on the Quad at 8 am to process to the Spectrum for USU Commencement Ceremony at 9 am; At 6 pm, assemble in the Waynes Estes Center immediately west of the Spectrum for the College of Science Convocation at 6:30 pm, ice cream social follows.
Apply for CoS Undergrad Research Minigrants
The application period is open for 2022 College of Science Undergraduate Research Minigrants. Ten grants will be awarded, which provide a $750 stipend, plus $250 in department-matched funds. The application deadline is April 15, 2022.

USU geoscientist Katie Potter presents “What Goes Up, Must Come Down: Cleaning Up the Atmosphere with Geology” at Science Unwrapped Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130. All are welcome! The presentation will also be live-streamed at usu.edu/unwrapped.
Jay Quade Speaks at Geosciences’ Forster Lectures
All are invited to USU Geosciences’ annual Forster Lecture Series featuring University of Arizona geochemist Jay Quade: “Climate and Origin of Large Plateaux” Monday, March 21, 3:30 p.m. GEOL 105, and “The Geology of Early Hominids in Ethiopia” Tuesday, March 22, 9 a.m. NR 105.
Physics Hosts Public Demo Show March 25
STEM enthusiasts of all ages are invited to the Department of Physics’ Spring Demo Show Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130. The free gathering features about an hour of non-stop science demonstrations, highlighting optical illusions, vision, eyeglasses, color, the strong nuclear force, radioactivity and more.

Science Unwrapped April 1
Science Unwrapped welcomes USU electrical engineer Regan Zane, who presents “Electric Avenues: Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE)” at Science Unwrapped Friday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in ESLC 130. New Scholarship for Pre-Meds
USU Alumni have established the Dr. Gary R. and Debra B. Gibbons Scholarship, with a preference given to students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Eligibility includes an overall GPA of 3.5 or greater and demonstrated financial need (as documented by a submitted FAFSA). Apply via the USU General Scholarship Application at usu.edu/scholarships/current. The application deadline is noon on Friday, March 25th. Questions? Student Hardship Fund
The College of Science Hardship Fund provides one-time, emergency financial assistance to students within the college who are experiencing a crisis. This fund is separate from the university’s Student Emergency Fund, from which science majors may also apply for assistance. To access the fund’s website, select “Students” from the main navigation bar on the College of Science home page and select “Student Hardship Fund” from the drop-down menu.
