The George Washington University Cancer Center is excited to share our updated Guide for Patient Navigators! This guide is a supplement to our Oncology Patient Navigator Training: The Fundamentals. The 508 compliant guide also provides free updated resources and tools for program implementation. The comprehensive, competency-based training uses evidence-based information and case studies to prepare patient navigators to effectively address barriers to care for cancer patients and survivors. Through funding and support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the GW Cancer Center has updated its melanoma awareness month campaign! To assist with your planning for Melanoma Awareness Month in May and throughout the year, we are providing the awareness campaign in advance. As always, the campaign includes downloadable tips for getting started on social media, and sample messaging for Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, including messaging around COVID-19. In a recent publication, Mandi Pratt-Chapman, PhD, Associate Center Director, Patient-Centered Initiatives and Health Equity for the GW Cancer Center, and her co-authors examined associations between sexual orientation and tobacco use. The study demonstrated that specific tobacco use disparities differ with respect to type of product, gender, and sexual orientation.
