Prayer Requests
Peace and healing for Jayson Gerken, son of Eric Gerken (Prince of Peace, Orlando, FL), as he recovers from spinal cord surgery.

Healing and strength for Rev. Mark Buckert (Emeritus) as he continues chemotherapy treatments for APL leukemia.

Praise and thanksgiving for the birth of Sonny Lee Johnson to Payton and Hailey on April 10. Hailey is the daughter of Rev. Tom and Sharon Boeck (Marco Lutheran, Marco Island, FL).

Strength and healing for Rev. Jerry Munz (Emeritus), who continues to recover from two shoulder surgeries and is now beginning physical therapy.

Strength and healing for Rev. Juan Gonazalez (Beautiful Savior, Lehigh Acres, FL) who remains unconscious and hospitalized. Keep his family covered in prayer and pray for a miracle of full recovery.

Healing and hope for Rev. Gary Dehnke (Circuit Visitor) who continues chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Continued prayers of healing for Rev. Chris Patterson (Concordia, Miami, FL) as he awaits further treatment.

District Convention Ingathering

As we prepare to celebrate God’s blessings on the Florida-Georgia District and the FLGA congregations in our convention, we encourage you to join in blessing others who are going through a difficult time in their lives.

We will hold an ingathering at the convention again this year. Phil’s Friends, a Recognized Service Organization of the Synod, will be the recipient. Phil’s Friend’s distributes free care packages and monthly Cards of Hope to cancer patients of all ages all over the country.

Learn more about Phil's Friends and begin the process of collecting items in your congregation to help cancer patients know they aren’t walking this journey alone.

Ministerial Assistance Program
The MAP is designed to help clergy, church workers, educators, parish nurses, secretaries, etc, and their families cope with church life and work challenges and demands. Learn more or set up an appointment.

Welcome to the LCMS

Pelican Lutheran Church in Naples, FL became an official charter member of the FLGA District, LCMS on May 1. Grace Lutheran Church in Naples, FL launched Pelican as a new church start in 2016.

Pelican holds church services in 3 different languages – English, Spanish and Haitian. They are also a community center for their neighborhood, offering English Literacy classes, conversational Spanish courses, refugee/immigration assistance, and activities like soccer, music festivals, and much more.

May 9 - The Future Church

Join FLGA Executive Director of Missions and Outreach, Dr. Peter Meier, for Mission Mondays, a one-hour Zoom call, for some great discussion! The Mission Mondays discussions are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 11 am. Next week the next topic is about:

What is the future of the church? Will Mancini, in his book, “The Future Church,” addresses challenges faced by the church today and offers solutions to help the church faithfully and joyfully fulfill the Great Commission. Join us for a look at his solutions and conversations about them.

NEW Community Resource at Lutheran Counseling Services

Many families today are wrestling with issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. The Village at LCS offers free in-person and virtual services to those in need. A Parent Support Group and LGBTQ+ Support Group (ages 20-26) are regular services provided. The LGBTQ+ community is underserved in Florida; LCS intends to provide mental health care that is cost-effective and easy to access.

New Provost at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis

Dr. Ronald Mudge, a university professor and Old Testament theologian with missionary experience in Africa, has been named the new provost of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He will begin his new duties on May 16.

Evangelizing the Lost through Life Ministry

The Making Disciples for Life seminar provides a forum for exploring ways in which we can individually and collectively make use of the opportunities to proclaim Jesus that Life Ministry provides for us. This seminar offers practical ways to conduct witness and outreach through Life Ministry through plenary and longer breakout sessions for discussion.

The seminar will be conducted live at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis and online. There is no cost, but registration is required and is now open.
