LUSH Cosmetics Awards AISJ Support for
Campaigns & Selected for Charity Pot
LUSH Cosmetics continues to demonstrate its commitment to investing in people, communities, and the Earth in its continued support of AISJ. Past LUSH support enabled our organization to advance its voter engagement and environmental justice efforts in 2020 through voter registration drives, canvassing, issue education, and transportation to the polls, as well as research to aid in addressing the wastewater management issue impacting impoverished communities in Alabama.
In 2021, LUSH awarded AISJ a second grant that will enable us to engage in campaign efforts to address race and gender equity, the impact of COVID-19 on child care businesses, workers, families, and children, as well as ways to repair environmental harm and protect minority, low-income communities from climate change.

Over the next year, AISJ will be one of 40 LUSH grant recipient organizations featured on the lids of Charity Pot Lotion sold in shops and online across Turtle Island. Charity Pot lids showcase a variety of organizations and causes receiving LUSH funding which aims to drive positive, long-term and systemic change. These labels increase awareness of the changemaking work happening at the community level and provide organizations with increased exposure to drive consumer support.

In 2022, AISJ will launch a public awareness and education campaign that lifts up the stories of child care providers, employees, and families and the issues they face in navigating Alabama’s failed child care system that is neither affordable for families, nor financially sustainable for providers and workers. The child care advocacy campaign will focus on how the essential service of child care is under-funded and under resourced, particularly in underserved communities and will address the impact of COVID-19 on child care businesses, families, and our community, as well as the negative economic impact on child care workers that has further exacerbated pre-existing disparities, particularly in the context of race and gender. AISJ is excited to partner on this project with artist and illustrator Davian Chester, who is known for illustrating the Black experience.
As part of our 2022 agenda, AISJ will also work to bring increased attention to the environmental racism that undermines the health and well-being of some of Alabama’s most marginalized communities. This renewed partnership with LUSH will allow us to advocate for record levels of federal and state covid recovery and infrastructure funding to be implemented in a manner that centers the experiences and needs of historically disenfranchised communities and commits to ensuring equitable outcomes through prioritizing the needs of disadvantaged communities that have been most heavily impacted by a history of environmental injustice.
