We rocked it in Asheville!
After eight frenzied weeks of designing, building, programming, and debugging, the TerrorBytes arrived in Asheville for the first competition of the season.

INTRODUCING "FULCRUM"
Fulcrum, the TerrorBytes’ 2023 standard bearer, performed outstandingly (as did its human Drive Team, Pit Crew, and Recon Strategists), finishing 10-2 in qualification matches and achieving a second seed for the playoffs. A new battery management system ensured that Fulcrum was fully charged for every match while LEDs provided useful and colorful feedback.

CLOSE FINISH
As captain for Alliance Two, the TerrorBytes collaborated with Team 5727 OmegaBytes and Team 6729 RobCoBots. After a white-knuckle game that ended in a tie, the team had a second chance to advance but ended their championship question in the semifinals with a Third Place finish.

MORE THAN ROBOTS
Meanwhile, Erin, Siri, and Gavin presented to the FIRST Impact judges, using a jigsaw puzzle version of the TerrorBytes logo to recount the team’s accomplishments. The FIRST Impact award celebrates teams who make consistent contributions to their community. This whole team effort included making the CAD, scroll sawing, and spray painting, not to mention the essay, the video (with original soundtrack!), and 128 individual outreach events in the past two years (none of which could happen without our amazing robots). Winning this prestigious award earned us an automatic berth at the State Championships.

Helping alliance members 8758 buff up their defensive capabilities | Dean's List nominee Alexander | Dean's List nominee Panav
We had another great competition at the Wake District Event last weekend. The team went undefeated during qualification matches and finished in 2nd place (again). This time we made it all the way to the finals with our fantastic alliance members 587 (Hedgehogs) and 8758 (Tar-Robo Turtles), but lost to Alliance 1, captained by the EastBots. | Meanwhile, more of our team members had to present themselves to the Judges: Our Dean's List Award nominees, Alexander and Panav. This award recognizes 10th or 11th grade students who exemplify the values of FIRST. Both deserve to be proud of being our team's selections for 2023. | Other highlights: The team won the Innovation in Controls award, and Siri, one of our quartermasters won the Safety All-Star Award!

Please help us go to Worlds! | Most people don't realize that the most expensive thing about being on a robotics team is the travel costs. Our students have incurred costs for three competition weekends so far, and now we're facing a week's travel to Houston. The more money we raise, the more of our students we can help out with costs. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe!
