Equipping farmers to build resilient farms and communities.
The Spring 2022 issue of the Practical Farmer is at the printer and will soon reach members' mailboxes.

On the cover, Phrakhounmany “Air” Philavanh leads a group of Muscovy ducks across his farm in Milo, Iowa. He is one of five PFI farmers who share stories in this issue first delivered live during our 2022 annual conference of their experiences of water’s healing, harrowing and humorous potential.

Other stories this issue profile Jan Libbey and Tim Landgraf, recipients of PFI's 2022 Sustainable Agriculture Achievement Award; explore how a farmland manager is working with her tenants to add cover crops; present a former vegetable farmer's take on the stark findings of a Pasa Sustainable Agriculture report on vegetable farm finances; and more.

The digital issue will be available online soon.

Are you looking to get paid, on-the-job training with experienced farmers in Iowa?

The Labor4Learning program is designed for beginning farmers seeking employment and additional training in farm management and production skills.

Over the past few years, more farmers have added small grains to their farms, and interest in these crops and how to integrate them remains high. At PFI, we’ve been trying to help farmers with that process.

Starting with the first episode, “Small Grains: A Revival,” you can learn more about small grains, from the benefits of adding diversity to your crop rotations to growing, harvesting and marketing the crops.
