Holocaust Remembrance Day 2022
January 27th is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, an event commemorated as International Holocaust Day. This month, INLOVE Magazine published a powerful article about the JFS Middlesex Holocaust Survivor Services. For editor Elena Vasilevsky, our programs and mission are close to her heart, as she recalls her great aunt Tanta Yetta's stories about her narrow escape from Nazi persecution.

"Henrietta Moses, whom I had always affectionately called Tanta Yetta, traveled here by boat with her sister. While she was allowed entry into the United States, her sister (because of her poor eyesight) was denied and sent back to Eastern Europe alone. Upon her sister’s return, they would correspond, sending letters back and forth. Until, one day, the letters stopped coming. When their communication ceased, my great aunt knew what that meant."

The article goes on to note that many Holocaust survivors now face unique challenges, and that the overarching goal of JFS programs is to keep survivors in the safety and comfort of their homes. Click here to read the full article.

As time goes by, aging survivors' needs increase, which JFS addresses through essential services such as home care, Kosher Meals on Wheels, Cafe Europa, transportation to medical appointments, socialization programs, and much more. Grant funding does not always keep up with rising costs, which is why your support is vital. Visit our website to learn about JFS Holocaust Survivor and Senior Services, and to made a much needed donation. Thank you.
JFS is hiring part-time drivers to help transport senior adults, including Holocaust survivors, to medical appointments and agency events, as well as to help with Kosher Meals on Wheels deliveries. Please visit our employment opportunities page for more information; email office@jfsmiddlesex.org for questions or to apply.
