WKU sprinter on track to teaching career
“Having a big heart and showing love to others is part of my purpose.”

A junior from Columbus, Georgia, Samyzia Sears currently runs on the WKU Cross Country/Track & Field team as a sprinter. Sears chose to join the Hilltopper family because of the Track and Field program and its motivational coaching staff. She says the best part about her WKU experience is the strong support system she’s found.

“You never feel alone, there’s always a shoulder to lean on.”

Her track career was inspired by her mother and the strong bonds she's formed with her teammates throughout her time at WKU.

Sears is majoring in special and elementary education and she is most proud of her acceptance into the teaching program. She says she enjoys her degree program because she wants to create environments where everyone belongs and is comfortable. She aspires to teach special education and further her education as she pursues a career in teaching.
