Weekly Newsletter 09/02/2022

Dear Parents,

This week flew by at our school as we say goodbye to August and welcome September. This on Wednesday we held our monthly fire drill. Although the loud noise is scary to kids, we must do it every month to train in the event of a fire emergency. The kids all did really well!

This week 2 of our classes, Yellow and Blue had a two hour observation from the Early Learning Coalition. The CLASS assessment is to measure child and staff interactions. Both classes did a phenomenal job. We can't wait to see our scores. One day next week our 2 VPK classes will also be assessed.

Also this week our VPK kids started the first of 3 VPK Assessments. This year it is tablet based. After all 3 assessments at the end of the school year we can provide you with the results.

Mid September, once students have been with their teachers for about a month, we will begin the Ages and Stages Assessments. This developmental assessment will help us to see if your child is developing on track or if we may need to suggest home strategies for you. This assessment is done for all kids 4 and under who are NOT in VPK. It will take staff a few weeks to do the assessments. We will let you know the results when they are completed. We will also do a second ASQ assessment toward the end of the school year.

Please remember we are closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day.

Each year, children die in hot cars because adults are distracted and kids get locked in the car by mistake. That is why the Department of Children and Families requires that twice a year we remind all families to LOOK BEFORE THEY LOCK their cars. We are also required to inform you that there is a shot for H1N1. Although you are not required to get it for your child, we are required to inform you about it.

Please take a moment over the next week to read the H1N1 information as well as the distracted driver information. Tuesday when you return you will see a long list of names on the white bulletin board outside the school. Then take a moment to sign and date next to your child's name so that we can be in compliance with DCF.

Mid-September we will also ask that all families fill out a new food form. Every October we are required to collect new forms for the Department of Health to go along with their fiscal year. Thanks for your cooperation in advance!

Have a wonderful long weekend with your family,

Beth Rosenthal Davis, Ed.S, NBCT
