Hello Members and Friends of WICNM,

Happy New Year!!

I am excited to be your President in 2022 and look forward to meeting you at an event this year. We had a wonderful time at our first networking event and had a great turnout too! Click Here to See some Pictures. Thanks to the Planning Committee for organizing and executing well run, fun and informative events. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 16th.

If you haven't renewed your membership yet, this is the best time to do so. While you're at it, why not introduce WICNM to someone else in your office or someone that you work with in our industry? We are striving to be 100 Members strong this year and we need your help to get there.
Please share this newsletter with anyone you might know is interested. Past newsletters can also be read online via our webpage.

Why Not Join a Committee This Year?
Planning Committee

The WICNM Planning Committee meets once a month and plans all of the lunch meetings, networking events, the Christmas Party, and any other meetings for members. Committee members also volunteer their time at the events to ensure that everything runs smoothly to give participants a positive and worth while experience.


Philanthropy Committee

The Philanthropy Committee meets once a month and facilitates opportunities for members to participate and donate to local charities and services that are helping women in our community. Committee members volunteer in scheduled volunteer work.



Marketing/Membership Committee

The Marketing and Membership Committee meets once a month and creates marketing materials, determines marketing items for sale or giveaways and also works on membership retention and recruitment.

Membership in WICNM is only $50 per year and leaves no doubt to its value and return on investment. As a member, you receive a membership discount on membership meetings, and are able to attend our networking events at no-charge. Just the networking events only are a $45 face value!

Women in Construction:
The Story is Much Longer Than You Think

Women have always worked in construction, even in ancient times. And, when you add a little imagination to accounts about ancient building sites, stories like this emerge.

A gang of women toiled in the August heat, thankful for occasional sips of water from a clay jug. Ten carried lime for mortar while 13 others hacked out foundation trenches from dense, stoney soil. The project: a new cloister for a church in Navarra Spain.

Their thanks for a 12-hour day on this 13th century construction jobsite included bread and wine somewhere out of sight because they were considered one of the lowest of society’s classes. These female workers faced an existence of hard labor or slavery simply because they were unmarried or very poor. In those days, poverty was seen as punishment for sinning. The more fortunate women working on construction sites handled tasks like sculpting, painting or weaving tapestries.

While the March observance of National Women’s History Month, was born in the late 1800s out of worker revolts against the conditions in factories, women’s grievances at that time mirrored what women working on early construction sites faced. Long, physically demanding days with only one-half or one-third the pay of what men were paid doing the same work.
