Week of September 5, 2022
FROM THE PRESIDENT
There is great excitement in the air as we prepare to embark upon a new school year. It is my sincere hope and prayer that this is a time of great blessing, filled with an abundance of wholesome opportunities for our students.

I hope you find this weekly communication helpful and informative. Feedback received from parents and guardians last year indicated that a more user-friendly format (no downloading of PDF files!) of the weekly newsletter would be appreciated. I am confident that this new platform will offer the convenience our families would like. Along with the new formatting, it is our plan to have the newsletter delivered to email boxes each week on Sunday morning.

Please know of my prayers and support for our students as the new year begins. If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Have You Read Our One Book, One School Selection?

This summer, as a part of our ongoing Global Awareness initiative, all students and faculty read The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton. The book will provide the foundation for meaningful learning experiences across the curriculum. We encourage all families to read it together and to
discuss and explore the many relevant issues it challenges us to confront.
Do You Know Who to Contact?

There were a few personnel changes over the summer. Please make sure you know who to contact if you or your student needs assistance by reviewing the list below. A full directory of faculty and staff is also available at shanahan.org.

STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE
Uniforms
All students should be in proper school uniform coming into school. This includes wearing the school ID and lanyard which will be distributed the first week of school.
New students will receive access cards to the building and their photo IDs will be distributed after the school photo is taken. For dress code information, please refer to pages 29, 30 of the handbook.
Punctuality
The first bell rings at 8:00 AM. At this time, all students report to homeroom. If students arrive to campus before 8:00 AM, they should report either to the Cafeteria or the Media Center. Students are not allowed to loiter in their vehicles if they arrive early.
Students must be seated in their homeroom by 8:10 AM. Anyone late for school should report directly to the Attendance Office for an admission slip. Only students arriving on late school buses will be admitted without penalty. Students who are on time for school but late for homeroom will be issued two demerits, regardless of whether a parent or guardian contacts the Attendance Office. If the student arrives after 8:30 AM, they will receive 5 demerits. In the event that a lateness is the result of a doctor's appointment and a doctor's note is provided for the day that a student is late, the lateness will not receive demerits.
Medical Documentation
Any senior who has not yet sent in their second meningococcal immunization should please do so immediately. In addition, any junior who has not submitted their physical should also do so as soon as possible. These forms can be submitted to the Nurse's Office or emailed to our nurse at lhart@shanahan.org.
