Auction Save Highlights Need for Equine Estate Planning

The story of Gonandunit (aka Noni) illustrates what happens to horses when there is no plan in place after the owner dies. Spoiler alert: this story, unlike others, has a happy ending. "In the early afternoon of September 2022, the Virginia Thoroughbred Project was contacted about a Virginia-bred mare in New York scheduled to go on the Unadilla auction block that evening. Former racehorse Gonandunit was foaled in 2008 and had 25 starts with $12,037 in winnings. It was believed that she had been a broodmare after her last race in 2014. Noni and 43 other Thoroughbreds found themselves at Unadilla – a very far cry from the Keeneland September Sale she was sold at as a yearling – as a result of an estate battle between the deceased owner’s family and previous partner."

Say Hello to the New Girl!

Carnival Lucky is a lightly raced, 5-year-old mare who came to us through our wonderful new partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. She started 11 times with 2 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds and earnings of $31,118. Her connections wanted to retire her sound after her racing career had seemingly plateaued. Carnival's last start was in December 2022, so she’s been adjusting to farm life and enjoying some downtime. We can’t wait to see how this incredibly sweet and classy girl is under saddle... stay tuned!

VTP Partners with Aftercare Charles Town

VTP is excited to partner with Aftercare Charlestown (ACT). Founded in 2013 to help Charlestown horsemen in the placement for horses upon retiring form their racing careers. ACT works with select groups of rehoming and training for second career organizations. VTP is thrilled to be included as one of these organizations. ACT does outstanding work!!

We ❤️ Southern States Charles Town

Our thanks to Southern States Charles Town for this incredibly generous and helpful donation of feed for our horses! Also, a HUGE thank you to Carol Siflinger and Amanda Morro for helping make this a reality!
