"Our mission is to serve society by helping to instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime and to achieve their full potential. In partnership with our generous supporters, we work to ensure that vitally needed development opportunities and experiences are available to all youth, regardless of income."

Twin Rivers Council Staff Update

Beginning May 1, 2023, Jaqueline (Jackie) Miller will serve as TRC’s Director of Development.  In this role, Jackie will work alongside the Scout Executive and Board of Directors to ensure the Council’s Philanthropic goals are achieved.

Over the last year, the Council has developed a Development Roadmap that is focused on relationship-based fundraising.  Key to that strategy will be engaging individual, corporate, and foundation donors, cultivating them with an understanding of their giving motivations, and soliciting them for transformational gifts. Jackie will work side by side with the Scout Executive and Board of Directors in opening doors to funding and oversee the overall development operation. Outsourced staff will provide leadership to the Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner committee, which Jackie will be a team member of.

Jackie has been serving as a Part-Time Membership Associate with TRC since September 2022.  Prior to joining TRC, Jackie founded a charity and served as President to the organization that secured funding and built Stillwater Glen Hollow Park.  Jackie brings an entrepreneurial attitude that will bring success to this re-designed development role.

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Jackie.

Advantages to Recruiting Cub Scouts in the Spring!

First things first: Families can join Cub Scouts any time of the year. The traditional fall recruiting push is one of those things that’s done that way — at least in part — because it’s always been done that way. It makes sense, because fall also happens to be the time when kids go back to school (boo!) and Scouting kicks back into high gear. But why not also recruit new members to your Cub Scout pack in the spring? It doesn’t take very much extra work. In fact, it could actually ease some of the headaches commonly encountered when starting new dens from scratch in the fall.

As a Leader this could make your life much easier getting new families engaged in the program when life isn’t so hectic for them as it is in the Fall. Its not much work with a HUGE reward! What a great way to get Lions and Tigers introduced to Cub Scouting, then by fall they are all set to hit the ground running!

The emphasis here is on the word fun. Think “normal friend activities” like swimming, cookouts, short hikes … basically, anything fun and safe that kids can do (outside, if the weather allows it) with their families. There are plenty of Cub Scout elective Adventures that can work for an event like this, but in general, advancement should not be the main goal; it’s to get the New Families Welcomed into the Scouting Family and let the kids have FUN.

While your typical fall Join Night consists of non-Cub Scout families listening to a short presentation from a Cubmaster or other volunteer, a springtime casual, relaxed outdoor activity gives the parents of prospective Cub Scouts the opportunity to interact with families who are already part of the program in a relaxed environment. Cub Scout leaders shouldn’t feel the need to overtly “sell” the program. Instead, just let the new families hang out in a stress-free environment and enjoy this time with their kids.

Don’t wait and miss out! Schedule your FUN Recruitment night today.
