Heading to State PTA Convention?
Don't forget to bring your crazy socks!
Ninth District PTA attendees will be easy to spot at the California State PTA Convention in Ontario. On Saturday, they'll be the ones wearing crazy socks, an homage to our Ninth District PTA president Derick Boerner known for his fashion-forward footwear. On Sunday, attendees will be wearing green t-shirts to honor one of our own, State PTA president Carol Green who hails from Chula Vista and is a previous Ninth District PTA president. On Friday, the Ninth District crew will gather at Via-Mar Grill & Cantina for a dinner to kick off our convention theme: We stick together.
In addition to these fun themes, attendees will have opportunities to learn, get inspired and network with PTA members from across the State.
Pre-registration goes through April 27 and is $199 for one day or $299 for full-time and $149 for student. After April 27, you can register on-site.

PTA Election Season in Full Swing
The annual election meeting is planned and run by the president. Here are guidelines for an effective election meeting:
-
Agenda – Put Election of Officers under New Business
-
Notice – Distribute written notice of the election meeting thirty days in advance to your unit members
-
Membership List – Secretary brings a current membership list to the meeting to verify eligibility to vote
-
Voting – Only unit members attending the meeting and who have been members for at least thirty days are eligible to vote.
-
Nominations at Meeting – After presenting the slate of nominees, additional nominations must be called for from the floor. These nominations don't require a ‘second’ and eligible members can nominate themselves.
-
Elected Officers – The election requires a majority vote of those present and eligible to vote

How to Submit your Bylaws to the State Parliamentarian
If you are updating your bylaws, you must get them approved at the State level before presenting to your members for adoption. Once you have completed the e-bylaws template, save the bylaws as a pdf document and submit through channels. The bylaws are not an official document until signed by the California State PTA parliamentarian. Once signed by the State parliamentarian, your bylaws will be returned to you for adoption at an association meeting provided 30 days’ notice has been given.

Auditors should be preparing for the final audit of the current fiscal year. Start collecting treasurer reports, meeting minutes, bank statements, account reconciliations, and other data now to reduce your workload after the year ends. If the mid-year audit included recommendations, check up on how those are being implemented.
