Principal's Message

Dear Greenbriar families,

We had another busy week at Greenbriar. We wrapped up our bus evacuation drills and students continued to practice routines. Our academics are well underway and it has been fun to watch students noticing mathematical patterns during Number Corner, and building their stamina for independent reading and writing. Next week, our fall assessment window opens and teachers will begin gathering more in-depth data about students that will help drive differentiated instruction as we move further into the year. Look for continued updates leading to conferences in October.

We have had a couple of questions about our food allergy policy so I wanted to clarify. We are now eating in the lunchroom so there are no restrictions on what students can bring for lunch. However, when packing snacks that are typically eaten in the classroom, please refer to classroom-specific letters that were sent by teachers prior to the first day of school.

I hope you all have great, relaxing, long weekends. The weather is looking great so enjoy the sunshine!

Warmly,

Ginny

GREYHOUND GATHERING IS SEPT. 21ST!

We are getting so excited for our upcoming Greyhound Gathering event on September 21st. This is a family event that will take place on the Greenbriar front blacktop/field. There will be a variety of activities, food, and a raffle. More details will be coming soon. Thanks to all of our Greyhound Gathering PTO committee members and to Hi-Five Sports who is helping to sponsor this event. "Hi-Five offers year long sports programs, day off of school camps, and birthday parties for kids at the Hi-Five Sports Zone Northbrook Court. Hi-Five Sports Camp North Shore is also offering early bird registration for all families from District 28. Email [email protected] and mention you go to school at Greenbriar and receive an additional $100 credit to use towards your camp registration for 2023. You can also mention this note and receive $30 off your next bday party at the Hi-Five Sports Zone!"

EXPECTATIONS FOR SMART WATCHES & CELL PHONES

We recognize that many students may bring cell phones and/or smart watches to school. Please remind your children that they may not use these devices to send or receive messages or calls while at school. Please do not contact your child via a phone or watch during school hours. Per our parent/student handbook, "Electronic Devices Cell phones, portable music devices, and other hand-held devices that are capable of sending and/or receiving text or electronic messages or images are to be turned off during school hours and are to be kept secured in a student’s locker, unless otherwise authorized by school personnel. Smart Watches must be set to ‘school mode’ to prevent sending/receiving calls and messages. Under no circumstances are students permitted to take and/or transmit digital images (pictures or videos) at school, on school property, or at school events (including field trips) where students and/or staff have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Electronic devices may be confiscated by a staff member who determines that one or more of these procedures have been violated. Loss of access to personal wireless electronic devices can occur if district personnel become concerned about its appropriate use. Examples of district concerns include safety, potential for disruption to educational processes, and security issues related to connecting a personal computer to the district network."
