A quarterly newsletter by Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County featuring updates on our McKenzie Regional Workforce Center and Careerforce Build UP! Programming.

Hello Laura,

We are so excited that after nearly eight years of planning and development, the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center is OPEN! Thank you to everyone who has come together to achieve this dream. Because of YOU, youth and teens in Dane County will be empowered to explore and pursue careers in skilled trades and given the tools to start their own businesses for generations to come.

We held the grand opening of the center on July 15th! The McKenzie Regional Workforce Center is the LARGEST youth workforce center in the history of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and we were honored to have Jim Clark, President & CEO of BGCA, join us in celebrating this monumental achievement. We look forward to working with Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide in the coming years to establish similar programs, using the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center and Careerforce Build UP! programming as the blueprint.

The center may have just opened this summer, but we have been holding skilled trades and entrepreneurship programs since June of 2022! Since then, we have served over 1,000 youth and teens in Dane County, whether they built Little Free Libraries or learned what it takes to start your own business.

With school back in session, we look forward to a great fall semester of skilled trades and entrepreneurship courses offered through our Careerforce Build UP! programming. We will be offering our entrepreneurship camp once again, and we are very excited for our first Pre-Apprenticeship training program for teens to explore trades in the construction industry and earn credentials such as the OSHA-10 Safety Training.

Together, we have come a long way and achieved GREAT things, but there is still work to be done. We aim to raise $35M to support the facility, its programs, and an endowment that will create transformational change for young people in the years and decades ahead.

Thank you for your continued support of the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center. Because of YOU, youth and teens in Dane County have great futures ahead of them.

Gratefully,
Michael Johnson

CAREERFORCE BUILD UP! PROGRAMMING

Guiding the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Over the course of six weeks, BGCDC held its' first entrepreneurship camp in the Schlecht Entrepreneurship Center at The McKenzie Regional Workforce Center! This camp is one of the first of many exciting opportunities for young people to learn about the behind-the-scenes details of creating your own business from dedicated professionals in our community. Participants were guided through activities like creating a vision board and a one-minute pitch for their business, as well as financial aspects like creating a budget.

Thank you to our program partner ActionCOACH, who provided the curriculum and instructors for this camp, and WRTP | BIG STEP for allowing us to use your space and providing volunteers.

This program was supported, in part, by federal award number SLFRP0135 awarded to Boys & Girls Club of Dane County via the Wisconsin Department of Administration by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

BGCDC Hosts first SHE BUILDS WISCONSIN Camp

BGCDC hosted the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin's first-ever SHE BUILDS summer camp at the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center! We had over 30 middle schoolers attend the camp to learn about careers in the trades, visit construction sites, and learn basic building techniques by constructing birdhouses and flower beds!

Thank you to all of the organizations, companies, and individuals who helped make this camp a success!

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTNERS

On behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County and Madison Area Builders Association, we'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to our program partners. Because of you, we are making a profound impact in our community and will continue to do so for years to come.
