The City of Cleburne and the Brazos River Authority are asking the community to practice voluntary water conservation.
The Brazos River Authority, which manages the system Cleburne’s water comes from, implemented a Stage 1 Drought Watch Condition for Lake Aquilla. The authority seeks to reduce water usage by 5-percent through voluntary measures. Because the city pumps water from Lake Aquilla into Lake Pat Cleburne for our water supply, voluntary water conservation now will benefit the whole system.
“I encourage our residents to evaluate their water use and practice smart water conservation,” Mayor Scott Cain said. “Being voluntarily cautious today gives us better odds tomorrow.”
Water conservation not only benefits the environment but can save money as well.
Although Lake Pat is currently not in drought stage, reductions of pumping from Lake Aquilla may affect our lake levels. The city and the river authority continue to monitor water supply and drought conditions and will notify the community of any updates.
