A Message from the Mayor

Dear Neighbor,

This weekend marks the first day of spring!

As the weather continues to warm up over the next few weeks, it’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore our community.

Cherry Hill is home to over 50 recreational facilities - giving residents many opportunities to partake in outdoor activities like hiking, basketball, pickleball, tennis, and more! Many of our parks even offer playground equipment for our younger residents to enjoy. A list of all Cherry Hill Parks can be found on our website.

With Women's History Month in full swing, I wanted to let you know about a fundraiser to help women in our community as well. Distributing Dignity is a local nonprofit that aims to distribute new bras, tampons, and pads to enhance the dignity of women in need. You can participate in their March "PADNESS" event by dropping off new, unopened packages of pads and tampons and new bras at the Cherry Hill Public Library, where a collection box is located in the library lobby.

I also wanted to wish those who celebrate, a Happy Holi! May the year ahead be happy and prosperous and every day be as colorful as Holi.

Sincerely,

Susan Shin Angulo

Mayor Attends Welcome Home Celebration for USN Seaman

Mayor Angulo joined Police Chief Kempf, Council Vice President Bauerle, County Commissioner and Gold Star Mother Melinda Kane several members of the Cherry Hill American Legion 372, and friends and family at a surprise Welcome Home celebration for USN Seaman Anthony Rexach. Police cars and about 60 motorcycles surprised USN Seaman Rexach with a motorcade followed by a brief welcoming ceremony at the Legion. USN Seaman Rexach just returned home from a six month deployment and leaves in a couple days for Mississippi, where he will be stationed for the next five years. Thank you to the American Legion for hosting this great celebration and continued thanks to USN Seaman Rexach for his service.

Mayor Tours New Apartments, Townhomes at 202 Park

This week, Mayor Angulo toured the new 202 Park apartments and townhomes. Across Rt. 70 on the Cooper River, the new 202 Park development includes more than 180 units and is already home to hundreds of residents since opening last year. The rental units offer top-of-the-line amenities, great views, and unique communal spaces that show Cherry Hill’s appeal to young professionals. That development is also evidence of the multiplied returns municipalities all along the Cooper River have seen from the County’s ongoing investment in Cooper River Park.

Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program

On March 2, 2022, the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) opened for applications. The program will provide financial assistance to low-income households to reduce the balances they have on their residential water and wastewater bills. Assistance is also available to customers to pay off balances on their residential gas and electric bills through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Universal Service Fund (USF) program.

Together, these programs will provide needed assistance to families struggling to meet basic needs for heat, power, water, and sewer, and will be critical to helping New Jersey residents get back on their feet as COVID-19 moves into an endemic phase.

More information can be found at: Application Period Now Open for Low Income Household Water Assistance Program.

The portal for submitting an application for utility assistance can be found at: DCAid Services - Custom Portal.

Council Recognizes the late Eugene Mori

At this week’s Council’s Meeting, Township Council paid tribute to the late Eugene Ewan Mori. Eugene shared his considerable as owner and manager of the Garden State Race Track in Cherry Hill, and his extraordinary knowledge and remarkable entrepreneurial spirit helped create the horse racing industry in our State. He was a steward of the environment, Eugene was especially appreciated for preserving wetlands and environmentally sensitive lands throughout New Jersey.

And a special thank you to Cub Scout Pack 252 for leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Get Ready to Bag Up Cherry Hill!

Don’t let May 4 catch you by surprise, it’s time to Bag Up Cherry Hill!

As New Jersey’s ban on single-use bags gets closer, Mayor Susan Shin Angulo, Township Council and the Cherry Hill Green Team encourage residents to bring reusable bags when heading out to shop or eat, as the ban on providing or selling single-use bags in all retail, grocery and food service businesses goes into effect on May 4.

Together, we can help make our community cleaner, more sustainable, and better prepared for the future ahead. Keep an eye on the Township’s website and social media pages in the coming weeks for more information about the new law, and how you can pick up your own free Cherry Hill reusable bag!

Senior Living

AARP Senior Tax Help- By Appointment Only!

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide services will again be available to Cherry Hill area residents from February 1 through April 12 - with a different twist for 2021: There will be no on-site traditional tax preparation where the taxpayer sits with an AARP Tax-Aide during the tax preparation process.

Instead, taxpayers will have the choice of 2 service models:

Same Day Drop-Off: Taxpayers interact with an IRS-certified Tax-Aide in a 20-30 minute in-person and socially distanced meeting. During the appointment, the Tax-Aide will complete the intake process and write a receipt for all tax documents collected. These meetings, available by appointment only, will take place in the Municipal Building in Room 208 on Tuesdays and Fridays, 10am to 2pm.

Before the taxpayer leaves, they will make a follow-up appointment to return the same day to review the printed tax return, sign an authorization for AARP Foundation to file the return electronically, and acknowledge their receipt of the original tax documents.

Taxpayers can only make appointments by accessing the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Site Locator for Cherry Hill at: www.aarpfoundation.org/Tax-Aide after January 15th. Taxpayers will receive an automatic confirmation email. A follow-up email from aarp.cc.pt@gmail.com will include the links to documents to be printed, completed, and brought to the drop-off site. If you do not have a printer, packets containing all required documents will be available for pick-up at the Community Center and the Municipal building.

If there are no appointments available, taxpayers can add themselves to the appointment waitlist. An AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will contact waitlisted taxpayers by phone as appointments become available.

Self Preparation: Under this model, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides taxpayers with free access to software so they can prepare their own taxes. Taxpayers can also request help from an IRS-certified counselor to coach them through the process by phone or through computer screen-sharing. Participants can only request virtual tax prep assistance through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide's website www.aarpfoundation.org/Tax-Aide. Participants must provide a private email address to use this model.

Please do not contact this site about any of the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide service offerings. They are wonderful, supportive hosts, but they are not AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers.
