A Recovery Community That Is STRONG!

This newsletter will be released once a month to recap recovery news and resources. You will also experience a word from Commissioner Doreen Williams, personal recovery stories and information on how to support the Rockdale County Stepping Up Initiative in our ongoing efforts to reduce the number of people in the criminal justice system with mental health and substance use challenges.

Commissioner Doreen Williams provides a monthly recap for the Rockdale County recovery community and their partners, allies and stakeholders. In this month's Commissioners Corner, she discusses the upcoming new Mental Health Crisis Line abbreviated number as well as what Rockdale County is doing to address the Mental Health response process.

Amber's Story

Amber Jenkins has been selected as the Champion of Recovery because of her dedication to being intentional about her recovery and the passion she has for her peers. We are proud to have her as an active participant of the Rockdale County Recovery Community.

We are grateful to have people in recovery that remember what it's like to be in the dark and are determined to keep spreading hope to others in recovery!

CHAMPION OF CHANGE

Claudette McFarlane

This month’s champion of change is Claudette McFarlane, President of our local NAMI in Rockdale and Newton Counties. She has been chosen as a result of her unwavering persistence to provide advocacy and support for those affected by Mental Health challenges. We would like to congratulate Claudette and the NAMI Rockdale Newton family on their recent accomplishment of being recognized as an Official Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization!

As a leader in our community, Claudette fights tirelessly to erase the stigma around mental health and advocates for equity and justice throughout systems at large. Claudette practices compassion and encourages mental health education and public awareness to empower people with mental health challenges an opportunity to live lives of whole health and wellness. Thank you Claudette McFarlane for your commitment to changing our Mental Health community in a positive way and always being a symbol of hope!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Operation Blessing and Xtra Mile Food Ministry have been partnering together for years now and have a great working relationship. Since 2014 One Heart has been distributing food and services to the under resourced in Rockdale County. For more information email office@oneheartministriesinc.org or call (678) 910-5725.

Grit and Grace RCO is working to build a community for people in recovery to be able to get support through meetings, activities, outings, trainings, volunteering in the community and more. If you need to be connected with like minded peers and would like to participate in one of our current projects or activities, please answer your recovery and reach out!

As we continue to intentionally grow in our recovery we invite you to our daily Recovery Oriented zoom meetings in hopes that our recovery community will also grow in numbers. We know that it is our duty to carry the recovery message to those that still suffer.
