WELCOME OUR NEW METER READER
Please welcome our new meter reader, Aidan Morlock, replacing Michael Reller, who will be off to college this Fall. Michael has set a high bar for accuracy and enthusiasm, which he undoubtedly shared with Aidan during their February training session. Please thank them both when you have the opportunity.
ELECTRONIC WATER BILLING
At last, the Town is about to offer electronic billing. Thanks to the efforts of Elizabeth Leider, the Water Department should be able to email water bills to residents who opt in by April or May. If you would like to receive your bill via email, please email Clerk/Treasurer Sue Ann Spens with the email address you want us to use.

Elizabeth is also helping both entities find online bill pay options. More details will be revealed when available. Beaux Arts is fortunate to be a small community in which neighbors know each other and are willing to volunteer their time and talents to both the Town and the Western Academy of Beaux Arts. When you have a chance, please thank Elizabeth for her extra effort.
DUMPING ON TOWN PROPERTY
Recently, a basketball hoop/stand, a toilet, and some miscellaneous items were left on Town property near the intersection of 105th Ave SE and SE 29th St. We suspect that someone from outside of Beaux Arts left the items in the hope that passersby would take them away. The items have been removed, but if anyone knows anything more about this incident, please contact Clerk/Treasurer Spens.
NEW LITTLE LIBRARY INSTALLED WITHOUT COUNCIL PERMISSION
A new Little Library has popped up on the Town right-of-way near the intersection of SE 28th St and 105th Ave SE. The Town recognizes that these installations provide a useful service, but they cannot be installed on Town property without the Council’s permission. We are asking the person(s) who installed this structure to contact Clerk/Treasurer Spens to learn how to obtain permission for the structure to remain.
COUNCIL BUSINESS
The Council met on Tuesday February 8, 2022 to discuss/act on the following:
  • Resolution No. 323 approving the 2022 ARCH Budget and Work Program. ARCH, A Regional Coalition for Housing, works to help create affordable housing on the Eastside. Our membership supports that cause and allows the Town to meet it statutory obligation to provide such assistance.
  • Resolution No. 324 authorizing and amendment to the ARCH Interlocal Agreement to allow changes to the Citizen Advisory Board that would bring more community voices and perspectives into their work.
  • Councilmember Duties. The Beaux Arts Town Council is unusual among cities to have a Mayor and Councilmembers who volunteer their time to the day-to-day operations of the Town by performing many duties handled by paid staff in other cities. Not only does this lower the Town’s operating expenses, but it also ensures the Council is aware of its needs.
  • Maintenance Shed Update: Construction of the building expansion is expected to begin in early March.
  • Zoning Concerns: The Council discussed several regional developments that may affect the Town in the future, including increases in housing density, increasing interest in ADUs, the parking issues associated with increased density, and related issues of shared ownership and short-term housing.
  • Tree Inventory/Canopy: As part of planned update to the inventory of Town trees, the Council will review our current canopy cover and compare that to a similar assessment from several years ago. This review will guide the replacement of trees removed from the Town property with new trees that expand the species/age diversity of our urban forest.
  • Paving Project: The paving project postponed last Fall due to weather will begin in early Spring. This project will impact parts of SE 27th, 103rd Ave SE, SE 28th, and 102nd Ave SE where paving was disrupted for the 2019 Water Main and 2020 Stormwater Projects. The Town will notify residents when date estimates are known so that people affected by the work can be prepared.
PLANNING COMMISSION
Over the last few months, the Planning Commission has been looking into resources and ways to support residents who own historical homes in Beaux Arts. If you are interested in learning more, the Planning Commission invites you to attend their next meeting on Thursday 3/31.
