President's Message

As I enter the last couple of months of my term as President of ACEC Florida, I have been reviewing my goals and initiatives for the year to ensure I have time to complete what I started.


My first objective this year was to work with our staff to upgrade our membership database system with the new Your Membership software we purchased last July. Our headquarters staff has been diligently working on this assignment and has completed the integration of our database from our old system to our new system.

Myakka Chapter Student Wins National MATHCOUNTS® Competition

Congratulations to Benjamin Jiang, the 2024 National MATHCOUNTS Champion!


Ben, a 14-year-old eighth grader from Osprey (Myakka Chapter), solved his way to victory over 223 competitors, including the 2023 National Champion.


As the 2024 National Champion, Jiang will receive the $20,000 Donald G. Weinert College Scholarship.


The Florida MATHCOUNTS team was comprised of four students and was coached by Jessica Merrick of Ransom Everglades School. The Florida team placed an impressive fifth place out of 56 states, U.S. territories and schools that serve the U.S. State and Defense departments.

Hires, Promotions & Other Firm News

Bucklew joins HNTB as Florida Construction Services Group Director 


Sandra Bucklew, PE has joined HNTB as vice president, group director and practice builder for the firm’s construction services group in Lake Mary, Florida. Bucklew will focus on growing the firm’s construction services practice in Florida. 


Bucklew has worked on several distinguished transportation projects in the region, including the $24 million SR 100 Railroad Overpass Project in Bradford County, Fla., a $25 million capacity improvement project – SR 369 (US 319) from South of East Ivan Road to North of SR 267 – in Wakulla County, Fla., among other CEI services on projects in Florida, Illinois and Indiana. Prior to joining HNTB, Bucklew worked at another infrastructure consulting firm and before that, served as a project manager and consultant CEI administrator at the Florida Department of Transportation where she oversaw CEI consultants and provided CEI services for the inspection of highway and bridge construction, including bridge painting and rehabilitation projects.

Jimenez promoted to Office Manager at Terracon Consultants, Inc.


Terracon Consultants, Inc. is pleased to announce the promotion of Javier Jimenez, P.E., to Office Manager in Miami, Florida. Jimenez has 27 years of experience as a structural engineer focusing on construction services, including materials testing and inspection services. Since joining Terracon, he has successfully led their construction services groups in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.  

 

Jimenez will oversee the operations and growth of the Miami office while working side-by-side with their public and private sector clients to meet their goals. Jimenez and Terracon are committed to partnering with their clients, providing innovative, technology-based solutions, and a nationwide network of resources on projects that have a meaningful impact on South Florida communities.

Terracon Promotes Lewis to Florida Environmental Services Leader


Terracon is thrilled to announce that Tom Lewis, P.G., has been promoted to Florida Environmental Services Leader. In his new role, Lewis will be instrumental in upholding Terracon’s commitment to safety and quality standards. Leveraging over 25 years of experience, he will execute strategic plans, offer financial guidance, and foster business growth. With his expertise in the public and private sectors, Lewis will oversee project implementation and be pivotal in Terracon’s most significant environmental projects statewide.
