EDA Funding Programs

  • Public Works & Economic Adjustment Assistance Program (rolling deadline)
  • Planning & Local Technical Assistance Program (rolling deadline)
  • University Center Program: enables institutions of higher education and consortia of these institutions to establish and operate University Centers (UCs) focused on leveraging university assets to build regional economic ecosystems that support innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship, resiliency, and inclusiveness.
  • Build to Scale - The Build to Scale Program builds regional economies through scalable startups through the Venture Challenge and Capital Challenge. Learn more about the full funding opportunity.
  • Tech Hubs - The Tech Hubs program is an economic development initiative to drive technology- and innovation-centric growth that leverages existing R&D strengths and technology demonstration and deployment capacities (public and private) within a region to catalyze the creation of good jobs for American workers at all skill levels equitably and inclusively.
  • Recompete Pilot Program - initiative that will provide grant funding to distressed communities across the country to create, and connect workers to, good jobs and support long-term comprehensive economic development by helping to reduce the high, prime-age (25 to 54 years of age) employment gap


Proposition 123 Funding

Details on this program HERE. Several hundred million dollars for affordable housing will become available in the second half of 2023 due to the enactment of Proposition 123 by Colorado’s voters in 2022. This funding will be overseen by the Department of Local Affairs and the Governor's Office of Economic Development and International Trade and may be granted or loaned to the following types of organizations: Non-profits; Community land trusts; Private entities; Local governments.


Colorado Housing & Finance Authority (CHFA) Direct Effect Grant

Application opens May 1; Deadline May 31. CHFA’s Direct Effect Awards recognize Colorado nonprofit organizations whose missions align with CHFA’s work to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. Details HERE.


Dept. of Energy NOFA for Rural or Remote Areas

More info here. The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) intends to issue a funding opportunity in March 2023 for up to $300 million to improve the cost, reliability, environmental impact, and climate resilience of energy systems in rural or remote areas across the country.


Dept. of Transportation Port, Transit, and Other Funding Opportunities

More info here. A number of FY2023 grant programs and funding opportunities geared toward rural transportation practitioners are currently accepting applicants. These programs include modernizing port infrastructure (MARAD), training in operating commercial vehicles (FMCSA), funding buses and bus facilities (FTA), funding low-emission buses and bus facilities (FTA). Further information is available on grants for Areas of Persistent Poverty (AoPP) and the RAISE Grants.


Kroger Charitable Giving

More info here. Kroger's charitable giving is committed to supporting nonprofit organizations in communities where Kroger Family of Companies operates. Focus areas of support include Zero Hunger/ Zero Waste, diversity and inclusion; health and nutrition; and stronger communities. Sponsorships, gift card donations, and in-kind or product donations are also provided. Requests are accepted from 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organizations throughout the year; grant requests from the foundations are processed quarterly.

EDA Denver Regional Economic Development Conference

The NADO Research Foundation will hold a regional economic development training conference in Denver, April 10 – 12, 2023. The EDA Denver Region covers a 10-state footprint (CO, IA, KS, MO, MT, ND, NE, SD, UT, and WY). The conference is geared for Economic Development Districts, Revolving Loan Funds, and others engaged in economic development across the region. The conference will be provided with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) Denver Regional Office.

2023 Colorado Creative Industries (CCI) Summit

June 1-2, 2023 in Crested Butte. The CCI Summit is the largest annual conference that brings together artists, culture bearers, creative industry entrepreneurs, arts funders, and culture workers. More than 300 creative stakeholders from over 60 Colorado cities and towns attend the summit. The two-day event offers exhibits, performances, networking opportunities, speakers, classes, and workshops.
