Focus of the Week - Education

UMMS School of Medicine Curriculum Revolution

UMMS SOM Curriculum Revolution (CR22) Update: As many of you know, the medical school is undergoing an extensive curriculum renovation effort. CR22 involves establishment of a 3-pillar model for medical education including biomedical, clinical and health systems sciences.  The mission of CR22 is to develop a contemporary and innovative curriculum that promotes curiosity and inquiry, empowers learners and enables future physician leaders to equitably and expertly care for diverse patient populations.

CR22 has a number of exciting, planned components including a fully-integrated but shortened foundational curriculum with a full clinical day each week, development of a pathways program where all students will select a pathway of further study, and the development of a 3-year MD program. There are family physicians leading and involved in the work at many levels including Dr. Susan Hogan, Dr. Tracy Kedian and Dr. Mary Lindholm, to name a few, and there is room for more. The new curriculum begins with the class entering in August 2022. Please visit the curriculum revolution website for more details about the project, including YouTube videos about the work at the bottom of this page.

Any questions related to CR22 can be directed to Trish Seymour ([email protected])

FHCW Wednesday Cultural Rounds
The residents at FHCW host the event each Wednesday from 5 – 5:30pm. We welcome a member of the community to talk about their culture and the ways it can impact their health and the care they receive. The sessions are informal and involve a robust Q&A. Through these weekly discussions, we hope to promote cultural humility and the continuous process of learning about perspectives outside of our own in order to improve the care we provide. We welcome anyone interested in joining us each week at the link below: https://umassmed.zoom.us/j/91563174994pwd=Um1MVWdPalloMWE2V3ptMXB5aDA1dz09.
