April 2022

Pleasanton
Chamber of Commerce
Word from our CEO
Mayor Karla Brown’s first in-person State of the City address was held on March 29 to a sold-out crowd. Even though she was unable to attend due to personal reasons, her video message was very positive and focused on the theme of working TOGETHER as a community - where residents and businesses thrive! Most notable was this past fiscal year resulted in a year-end surplus of $7,501,382 which will be allocated to General Fund reserves, COVID Response and Recovery, Repair and Replacement reserves and Capital Improvement Programs. Several other exciting projects were highlighted such as the All-Abilities Playground, Skatepark and Fire Station No. 3. Most impressive, was the response to a community survey where over 94% of residents said Pleasanton is an excellent or good place to live! You can watch a recording of the State of the City address here.

We have an exciting April planned with two in-person networking mixers on April 13 and April 27 from 5-7 p.m. Our April 13 networking mixer will be held at Chabot-Las Positas Community College District’s new office in Pleasanton in partnership with the Dublin, Hayward and Livermore chambers. The April 27 networking mixer will be held at the Dublin San Ramon Services District in partnership with the Dublin and San Ramon Chambers. You don’t want to miss these great opportunities to make some new connections. You can get more information by going to our website at pleasanton.org and clicking on the events tab, and also by visiting our events calendar page here.

If you haven’t already taken advantage of our other cost effective tools and resources for business promotions such as tradeshows, premier web listings, and advertising in our Business Connection newsletter which is distributed inside the Pleasanton Weekly, now’s the time; reach out to Dawn or Susie.

We also just confirmed our Spring Tradeshow Mixer which will be held on May 11, from 5-7 p.m. at OMRON Robotics and Safety Technologies. Call Susie Weiss for details 925-846-5858 ext. 201.

The month of May is just around the corner and that means graduation for the Leadership Pleasanton class of 2020, and the opening of registration for the class of 2023 that will get underway in September. Visit our Leadership Pleasanton page for an application and don’t delay as this program is sure to have its max of 30 enrollees once again this fall.

CloroxPro introduces new online education and training program for cleaning professionals
COVID-19 raised public awareness of how germs spread, and as a result, expectations for cleaning and disinfecting in shared spaces were elevated. These days maintaining shared, public spaces that are “just” visibly clean is no longer enough. Professional cleaners are expected to do more to help safeguard public health.

To help address this CloroxPro, a division of The Clorox Company, recently introduced CloroxPro™ HealthyClean™, a new online learning platform that delivers best-in-class education and training on how to clean for health — effectively, efficiently and safely — to help create cleaner, healthier shared spaces. Continue reading here.

PUSD Workability Program
The PUSD WorkAbility Program provides high school students receiving special education services with instruction and experiences that lead to gainful employment after high school.

WorkAbility places high school students in jobs at local businesses with a job coach, training them and teaching skills that will help them in obtaining and retaining gainful employment in the future. The student wages are funded by grants from the California Department of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation.
We also help students with job search assistance, resume writing, interview coaching, career assessments, career exploration, and more!

WorkAbility is an opportunity for high school students to bridge the gap between school and the adult working world, helping students with special needs to become employable.

There are several local businesses that support the WorkAbility program, including the following chamber members: Grocery Outlet, SideTrack Bar + Grill, Bay Club, Gay Nineties Pizza, Porky's Pizza Palace, Pet Supplies Plus, Safeway, Valley Humane Society, Pleasanton Golf Center.

For more information, contact Janeen Rubino-Brumm, WorkAbility Specialist, at (925) 931-2230 or jbrumm@pleasantonusd.net. Click here for a Workability overview.

Headshots for ambitious people
Do you hate having your picture taken?

No one ever walks into my studio saying “I LOVE to have my photo taken!” Whether it’s lack of confidence, fear of not liking their photo or generally not thinking their are photogenic. All of this prevents you from showing your true personality and authenticity. Through my facial expression coaching, I promise you that you will leave the studio feeling confident and happy with the results of your photoshoot.

That’s what over 22 years experience does. Learn more about Nina Pomeroy Photography here.
