A Message from Katherine Kerr: April 1, 2022
Dear Friends,

As we continue our sermon series Wrestling With God: Finding Faith on Sunday, we’ll consider an important but oft-maligned practice in life and in faith: surrender. It isn’t a bad word, but depending upon how you use it and with whom, it can certainly be received as such.

In a culture in which power and victory are revered above all else, surrender feels like weakness, and weakness feels bad. Thank God that God offers us a different view.

I like how British writer and mystic Andrew Harvey puts it when he says, “Surrender is deeply misunderstood as an act of weakness. Surrender is the bravest and most lucid thing a human ever does, and that is why it is so precious to the Divine.”

No matter who you pull for on Saturday night, I hope that you will join us for worship on Sunday, either in person or online, as we consider how Jesus approached surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane. You can read the passage here. I’ll be preaching at 8:45 in the chapel, at 9:30 and 11:00 in the sanctuary, and in the 11:00 Fellowship Hall service.

Our First Sunday adult education series will take up the topic of Listening Well in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30. All are invited to this panel discussion featuring church members and moderated by Nikki Zimmermann.

Have a great weekend-
