Community Spotlight: Habitat Denton's Build Committee Volunteers
|
As you may have noticed, part of our campus on University Drive in Denton is undergoing a major remodel. With our ReStore's furniture and home goods departments now permanently located in our main building off of Cornell Lane, the former "Furniture Store" building directly off of University Drive is being remodeled into our new corporate offices. Habitat Denton had been renting this property up until February 2021, when it was purchased with funds from the sale of our previous office building to Ruth's Room. Our awesome Board of Directors have helped create an incredible vision for this space and increase Habitat's presence in the community.
Additionally, our Build Committee volunteers have stepped up to work on a remodel project themselves. Their willingness to help on this project will save us over $23,000. They recently began the process of rebuilding a small storage building that will become a space for tools and building supplies for our home builds. Currently, much of the building materials for our homes are stored in various storage units, so creating a space to house these materials on our main property will be an amazing help to our production and efficiency as well as saving funds.
We are so grateful to be surrounded by a wonderful community of support! Thank you to all our committee volunteers!

Did you know? Habitat for Humanity of Denton County offers free financial education classes for the community, covering topics such as managing personal finance, debt, budgeting, credit cards, planning for the future, and more.
On Saturday, March 11, we held a workshop titled "Protecting Your #1 Investment: Know what is covered and what is not covered in your homeowner's policy." This class, presented by State Farm and hosted at the Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors office, offered education to our community on homeowners insurance. Topics covered included how deductibles work, what happens come claim time, how to find discounts, and more.
These classes, which occur once each quarter, are required for Habitat homeowners as part of their "sweat equity" hours, but anyone in our community interested in preparing for homeownership is welcome. We understand the hard work and determination involved in becoming a homeowner, and we continually meet families who are up for the challenge. We want to do everything possible to prepare those in our community for the large endeavor of homeownership, and one way we can do that for everyone is through free education.

By investing monthly, you join a community committed to sustaining Habitat for Humanity of Denton County's mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. You help keep Habitat homes affordable for the hardworking families who need it most.
A monthly gift of just $10 quickly accumulates to help more families achieve their dream of homeownership. If every family in Denton County gave just $10/month, we could build all 16 homes of Phase 1 in the Habitat Village right now.
And now, if you sign up to give $10 monthly by April 30, you will be entered to win a brand new Allen + Roth 4-piece patio set (valued at $1,299).

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.

Partner with us to bring a brighter future to local families in your community. With the support of volunteers, they'll build their own homes and have the opportunity to pay an affordable mortgage. Your help will be met with grateful hearts.
One small but meaningful way to contribute is by donating your old car to support affordable housing in your community. Not only will you be making a difference in someone's life, you'll also get a tax deduction for your giving back!
