A Message from our Interim President

To the Carondelet Community -

February is Black History Month, a time for us to celebrate, learn about, and reflect on the incredible contributions of Black and African American people throughout the history of our country. We encourage all of our students to check out the wonderful art by Black artists on the DEI Council wall outside of room 15. Our BSU (Black Student Union), in partnership with our DEI Council, will be hosting an interactive experience in the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation during lunch on Friday, February 24—more information on ways to participate next week. Recently the Catholic Voice published an article with a reflection by Maurice Harper, a longtime Catholic school educator, former star athlete, and a faith leader who serves on the Diocese of Oakland's Racial Task Force Sub-committee on Education. Here is a reflection contributed by Maurice in the latest issue of the Catholic Voice: Being Black and Catholic.

We have a four-day week this week and next, as Friday, February 17 is a Faculty/Staff Professional Day and Monday, February 19 is a school holiday to recognize Presidents' Day. Progress reports will be emailed to families on Monday, February 13, so please keep an eye out for these Quarter 3 updates. To celebrate Valentine's Day on Tuesday, ASB will be sponsoring a “Palentine’s” event during Blunch including crafts, food, and other Valentine-themed activities for students. More information will be posted to Schoology with all the fun ways to participate. We will also hold in prayer three of our Symbols and Ethics classes as they participate in their junior immersion at Monument Crisis Center this week. During their immersion experience, students learn about poverty and homelessness in the East Bay and Contra Costa County and study the principles of Catholic Social Teaching that guide us to evaluate the needs of the community and create systems of support and service.

Congratulations to our soccer and basketball senior athletes! Both teams celebrated the wonderful accomplishments of their senior players this past week as they prepare for post-season play. Without skipping a beat, we will kick off the spring sports season on Monday evening with a Positive Coaching Alliance workshop for our student-athletes and an informational meeting for our parents and guardians—please see more information below.

As always, there are many amazing things to celebrate and fun ways to get involved on campus. We are so grateful for our vibrant and supportive Carondelet community.

In Unifying Love,

Jessica Mix

Interim President

Reminders + Requests

2023-24 Tuition Assistance Applications Closing Monday

Carondelet tuition assistance applications are open in FACTS for the 23-24 school year. Applications are due by Monday, Feb. 13, and meeting this deadline is critical to receiving timely aid awards. You must apply each year you require aid. There is one application for both Carondelet and De La Salle students. Please see our website for additional tuition assistance information or contact Terri Meehan with any questions. Here is a link to the FACTS website to start the process. You may also use this application to apply for FACE through the Oakland Diocese if you received an award from them in the past.

Progress Reports

Progress reports come out on February 13. This is not a 'permanent' set of grades, just a heat map to give students a feel for how things are going so far this semester.

2023 - 2024 Student Leadership

The Student Leadership selection process for the 2023-2024 school year is underway! Students must attend the mandatory informational session in order to apply for a leadership position. There is a makeup informational session this Thursday, Feb. 16 during lunch in the Cotter Commons for students who did not attend the informational session last week. Contact Maggie Lettire or Edie Payne with questions.

Parking Lot Reminders

To help with traffic flow at the exit, we ask that parents and carpools please use the main gate entrance when entering the lot in the mornings and do not park in any numbered parking spaces as these are all accounted for by students, faculty, and staff. Drivers should leave the campus through the back gate.
