Muslims around the world celebrate Ramadan, a holy and spiritual holiday, which lasts one month. This year in the United States it will begin on Saturday, April 2 and end with Eid al-Fitr on Monday, May 2[1].
During Ramadan, observant muslims fast between dawn and sunset. This is a way for them to show devotion and come closer to Allah, or God. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The other pillars are faith, prayer, charity and making the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca (hajj).
Ramadan is also a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends.
Assemblymember Bichotte Hermelyn wishes you peace and blessings this Ramadan.
May you find hope and strength through your fast and prayer.
