Beautification Project

Neighborhood Beautification Project : This year, neighborhood councils have access to additional funding that can be used toward volunteer-led clean-up events. Funding covers costs for disposal and supplies, like garbage bags, paint rollers, etc. More information and the application can be found here. (Up to $1,000 per neighborhood total can be spread across multiple projects.)

Spokane Neighborhood Summit Call for Presenters

The Spokane Neighborhood Summit is back and workshop presenters are needed! This will be a fun day of connection and learning for neighborhood leaders. If you have are interested in presenting at the Summit on Saturday, Nov. 2, see the 2024 Call for Workshop Proposals handout.

Send A Goat Day 2024

Send A Goat Event ONS recently spent a day as goat wranglers at Fairchild Air Force Base supporting Wishing Star Foundation’s Send A Friend A Goat annual fundraiser. This fun-filled day brought smiles to everyone’s faces, raised the morale of our local airmen, and raised more than $700. Lemon, our “kid” for the day, possibly even found their forever home. 

City Updates

Getting around and warmer weather means construction and pothole season. 

May is Bike Everywhere Spokane! Bike to Work Week kick-off breakfast is Monday, May 13, from 7 to 9 a.m. Get your bikes ready for National Bike to Work Week and kick off the celebration with a tasty breakfast at the North Bank Shelter, right by the Ice Floods Playground in Riverfront Park. The Spokane Bicycle Club will be serving delicious blueberry pancakes and Roast House coffee.

Bloomsday 2024

Bloomsday is Spokane’s iconic annual 12K race, organized by the Lilac Bloomsday Association, attracts thousands each May. Since 1977, it’s been a beloved tradition fostering health, fitness, and community spirit. The challenging course winds through scenic streets, showcasing landmarks and providing a unique experience for runners of all levels on Sunday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers ask to park vehicles off the race course. Police will check the course the morning of the race, and vehicles left on the course may be towed. Keep dogs along the course tied or fenced. Make plans ahead. Traffic in the race area will be restricted during the run. Expo '74 50th Anniversary

The 50th Anniversary of Expo ’74 is almost here! The City has been working hard on a number of projects to help make the celebration extra special, including revitalization of several iconic Expo structures and completion of the Great Gorge Loop Trail. Saturday, May 4, kicks off the nine-week celebration. Learn more at: www.expo50spokane.com.

  • Come out and enjoy Expo and see ONS on May 18! If your neighborhood council wants to “table” with us that day, let us know! 
  • Spokane Transit Authority Board of Directors voted to reduce fares to 50 cents for the downtown shuttle 11 throughout the Expo celebrations from May 4 through July 4 and fares for the entire bus system will be free on weekends. 




Spokane River Clean-up

The Code Enforcement Department’s Litter Crew transported and disposed of about 8,600 pounds of garbage during the volunteer event coordinated by the Spokane Riverkeeper on Saturday, April 20. Riverkeeper will organize another river cleanup on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon. 

Explore eco-conscious planting with SpokaneScape. A colorful low-water way to landscape your property; protect natural resources and the environment; and reduce yard maintenance. City of Spokane customers can earn up to $500 credit on their utility bill by removing lawn and replacing with water wise plants and mulch.

Give back to the Spokane community by joining a volunteer board, commission, or committee! The City is accepting applications for boards and commissions. Complete the application form and to submit it the Mayor’s office at mayor@spokanecity.org. Prefer to print and mail your application? No problem. You may submit the application by mail or in-person to MySpokane Customer Service, City Hall 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane, WA 99201.

  • CA Communications (Comms) Committee: Meets the second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 906 W. Main Ave., Conference Room B, third floor. 
  • CA Community Development Committee: Does not have a regular meeting date and time, so please check the calendar for meeting information. 
  • CA Land Use Committee: Meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. hybrid (in-person West Central Community Center, Mason Room, 1603 N Belt St., or Zoom). 
  • CA Liaison Committee: Meets the second Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m., hybrid (in-person South Hill Library, 3424 S. Perry St. or Zoom).
  • CA Pedestrian, Traffic and Transportation (PeTT) Committee: Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. virtually on Zoom.
