Register Now: CID State Capitol Briefing The State of California’s Changing Electorate June 29
The Center for Inclusive Democracy continues its State Legislative Briefing Series next week with an in-depth look at new and emerging research on voting access and equity in California elections, particularly among underrepresented communities.

Mindy Romero will provide findings from CID’s latest research. Joining her at the briefing will be James Woodson, Executive Director at the California Black Power Network, and Melissa Romero, Senior Legislative Affairs Manager at California Environmental Voters. The panel will discuss the impact of CID’s findings on the shape of California’s electorate and the outreach needed to see greater participation and representation in the 2024 elections.

The in-person legislative series at the State Capitol in Sacramento is being conducted in collaboration with the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. The briefing will take place from 12-1:00 p.m. PST at the California State Capitol, Room 437.

A legal campaign being mounted by Republican lawmakers and others against universities and think tanks seeks to limit the fight against false claims about elections, vaccines and other divisive political topics. The campaign is accusing these investigative entities of colluding with the government to suppress conservative speech online.

The hosts also discuss the growing field of Republican candidates for president, and what Republican primary voters likely want from a presidential nominee.
This opinion piece explores how American attitudes about social issues have changed over the years. While slightly more identify as socially conservative, a majority holds viewpoints that would traditionally be considered more liberal on issues such as gay marriage, abortion and pre-marital sex.
New Research
Asian-American voters in the U.S. tend to be Democratic, but Vietnamese American voters are an exception

About six-in-ten Asian American registered voters are Democrats or lean Democratic, but 51% of Vietnamese American voters tilt Republican, according to a new survey from Pew Research.

Social Conservatism in U.S. Highest in About a Decade

Gallup’s annual Values and Beliefs survey conducted May 1-24 found that 38% of Americans say they are conservative on social issues, up from 33% last year, which is the highest percentage saying they are socially conservative since 2012. In addition, the poll found that 44% say they are economically conservative, also highest since 2012.
