Closed for Thanksgiving
The Heart of Virginia Leadership Center and Scout Shop will be CLOSED for the Thanksgiving holiday, November 25th through 27th.

2022 Charter Renewal is Live!
Recharter season has arrived! Internet Recharter 2.0 went live on Friday, October 15th, and will be available for use through Friday, December 17th. The HOVC Charter Renewal page is full of great information and the tools you need to make your recharter a success.

Youth Protection Training and Charter Renewal
As you prepare your unit for Recharter, we ask that all leaders please review their Youth Protection Training (YPT) expiration dates. To ensure a smooth renewal, if your training expires before January 31, 2022, we ask that you please retake it now. YPT and other training can be found at my.scouting.org.

Friends of Scouting
Heart of Virginia Council is proud to announce the Keynote Speaker for the 2022 Friends of Scouting banquet at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on March 1stKevin Lacz, decorated former US Navy Seal, sniper, and combat medic who served with "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and was the technical advisor and co-star in the movie, "American Sniper," will join us for what we are sure will be an inspiring evening.

The Heart of Virginia Council's highest volunteer recognition, the Silver Beaver Award, will be awarded to five highly deserving Scouters. These Scouters have made a huge impact in the lives of youth through their hard work, self-sacrifice, and years of dedicated service.

We are accepting nominations for the 2021 Silver Beaver Award through November 30, 2021.

Scouting for Food 2021

For more than thirty years, the Heart of Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America has helped feed hungry people in Central Virginia through its main service project, Scouting for Food, an annual food drive conducted by the Council. This year’s Scouting for Food Drive will be held on Saturday, November 6th.

Upcoming Events and Service
Tiger & Lion Rally
Join us on November 6th for Tiger & Lion Rally, a special event we run at Cub Camp in the fall when all-new Tiger & Lion Scouts and their families are invited to camp for the day to have fun and become familiar with Cub & Webelos Adventure Camp. The activities are designed to meet the needs and skills of Scouts who are entering Kindergarten and 1st grade; however, older Scouts and siblings are welcome to participate.

Flag Retirement Ceremony
The Rivers and Battlefield Districts invite
all Cub Scouts to a Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. It will take place at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Battlefield Post 9808 7168 Flag Lane, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111. For GPS maps please use 7239 Brooking Way, Mechanicsville, Va 23111 for the entrance to the VFW.

Fear Factor Camporee
Face your fears this fall at the Huguenot Trail Fear Factor Fall Camporee taking place November 19th - 21st, 2021 at Albright Scout Reservation. Scouts will conquer their own limiting fears by working together to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. The cost is $20 per attendee, and registration closes on November 5th, so register soon.

Attention Cardinal District Scouters
Cardinal District requests the attendance of Webelos and their parents to join us at the Webelos to Scout Transition Fair on November 30th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The Fair will provide an opportunity for Webelos and Arrows of Light and their parents to meet representatives of Cardinal District Troops, ask questions, talk about Troop activities, and find out what each unit has to offer. It's our hope this Fair will help Scouts and parents find a Troop that meets their needs. There is no cost to register for or attend this event, but registration is required.

Merit Badge Instructors Needed - Winter Camp 2022
We are looking for adults over the age of 18 to serve as merit badge instructors for our Winter Camp, taking place January 14th - 17th at Camp T. Brady Saunders. Some of our most popular badges, including First Aid, Engineering, and Emergency Preparedness remain open, but we are welcoming all potential badges for camp. Any person interested in serving as a merit badge instructor should contact Vincent Milone, Program Director, at hovcwintercamp@gmail.com.
2022 Summer Camp

Camp T. Brady Saunders has been offering an outdoor experience to the youth of Central Virginia and beyond since the summer of 1964. Registration is officially open for our Summer Camp, 2022! Join us for all the adventure you've come to expect at Brady Saunders. Join us for one of our six program weeks, from June through July 2022!

Specific Training
Calling ALL new Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders! All youth not only deserve trained leaders, but they also deserve WELL TRAINED leaders. Is that not what YOU want for YOUR child, and should expect of yourself and other leaders? Join us at an in-person training on Saturday, November 13th at Albright Scout Reservation for the training you and your Scouts deserve.

The Trainer's Edge
The Trainer's EDGE helps develop the skills of leaders and trainers. It focuses on improving the participant’s training and communication skills. The Trainer’s Edge is the required train-the-trainer course for Wood Badge, Commissioners’ College, and NYLT staff. The Course is highly beneficial for all trainers and leaders. Take advantage of this great opportunity to impact the quality of the programs our youth receive through well-trained leaders!

November District Roundtables
Roundtable is a resource for Scout leaders, volunteers, parents, and youth leaders to come together and learn and share information. Each District hosts its roundtable the first week of the month.

We need four adults, over the age of 21 to assist with den and pack meetings for underserved youth in Richmond or Petersburg. One Petersburg position will work with youth during school hours, the other positions will work after school.
