Upcoming Trainings, Events, & Meetings
  • The February Monthly Member Webinar is Wednesday, 2/10 at 12pm. Many people know that intersectionality and racial justice are key when addressing sexual violence but if someone asked you, could you tell them why? This workshop with Olivia Montgomery will address the historical roots of sexual violence against African American women and give insight into how our current movement can provide equity for the people who created it. *We are opening this month's webinar to everyone--you do not need to be an OAESV member.

  • The next Putting Conversation Into Practice webinar is scheduled for 2/17 at 3pm. This series, from the Ohio Co-Conspirators in Ending Oppression (former Aspiring White Allies) calls on white people within the anti-violence field to step up for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities. Join white peers across Ohio as we confront white fragility and work together to learn about and practice anti-racism. Automatic English Subtitles provided; Contact Jenn Eidemiller [email protected] for additional accessibility requests.

  • Our new series, Thirsty Thursday, begins 2/18 with a 10am call. This series for Ohio SART Coordinators is a space to explore challenges unique to SART Coordinators and to raise our glasses to team successes across our state. Each month will feature a new call or blog!

  • We will continue to hold a space for direct service staff to discuss how the pandemic and recent funding cuts are affecting them and their work. If you're direct service staff, please consider joining us for our Critical Conversations online meetings. You can register on oaesv.org/Events (Open to non-members)

Funding Update
From the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence - February 8, 2021:
"Today, the House Education and Labor Committee sent a clear message to survivors of sexual assault: we hear you and you have our support. As many survivors struggle with severe trauma reactions due to the increased stress of the pandemic, rape crisis centers and culturally specific programs are struggling to meet those needs just as they are committed to finding innovative solutions. Through the leadership of Chairman Scott, there is help on the way in the relief package. The National Alliance to End Sexual Violence is excited to support these measures.

The House Education and Labor Committee includes the following in their reconciliation package:
  • $198 million for sexual assault services through rape crisis centers
  • $180 million for the Family Violence Prevention & Services Act (FVPSA)
  • $49.5 million for culturally specific programs
  • $2 million for the National Domestic Violence Hotline
  • $18 million for tribal responses to gender-based violence

The legislation has to move through the House and onto the Senate, but we are very excited about this! Thank you for all of your hard work and advocacy!"

Thank you to all who have worked on this.
Let's continue pushing forward and asking for the
support survivors deserve.

In 2020, VOCA cuts reduced OAESV’s legal services fund by 35%, leaving us with just $35,000 to cover legal fees for survivors in 88 counties. With this cut, OAESV could have to turn down more cases than ever before, leaving survivors without access to life-saving legal options.

So, what can you do? Will you join us by donating to our Survivor Legal Services Fund? Your donation to our Survivor Legal Services Fund will go directly toward legal representation and fees to support survivors in the aftermath of sexual violence.

Survivors need you now more than ever.
Help support our work. At OAESV we provide many services, including training for advocates and preventioniststechnical assistance for local programs, systems advocacy, public policy work, and much more.
