ARC Rugby Fundraising Celebration

Celebrate the success of the inaugural ARC rugby season at their fundraising dinner celebration on Saturday, April 27 at 6:00 pm in the ARC Cafeteria.

In their inaugural season, the ARC Ruby club has had tremendous success. Their season record was 6-1, losing only to San Jose State by one point from a penalty kick. For redemption, the ARRC went on to beat San Jose State (33-24) in their second encounter to win the Northern California DIAA Championship. American River College has the only D1AA rugby team in the nation to be nationally ranked. Our rugby beavers will be playing in Western Regionals in April and hoping to continue to Nationals in May.

Commemorating Earth Day

Each year on April 22, more than a billion people celebrate Earth Day. Across the world, people take time to engage in service work and learn more about how we can be better stewards of the planet. Did you know fossil fuel-powered transportation is the single biggest source of air pollution in California? On Earth Day, help clear the air by trying an alternative form of transportation! Just one light rail train car can take 150 automobiles off the road, and one bus can take 60 cars off the road.

This Earth Day, Monday, April 22, Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) is offering systemwide free rides! SacRT light rail vehicles minimize air pollution as they are 100% powered by electricity. Most SacRT buses either use compressed natural gas (CNG) which produces fewer pollutants, or are 100% zero-emission electric battery-powered vehicles. And don't forget that the Universal Transit Pass allows eligible students to use SacRT bus and light rail services at a lower price during the semester.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sexual assault, also known as sexual violence, is one of the most serious, pervasive, yet underreported crimes in the world. According to the CDC, over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes, yet only 12% of victims report the incident to the authorities.

Wednesday, April 24 has been designated Denim Day – wear your jeans and denim to help raise awareness and show support for survivors of sexual violence.

Los Rios' WEAVE Confidential Advocate is available to confidentially support or provide information to students or employees who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or sexual harassment.

Student Feedback on Student Services Programs

In Spring 2023, the ARC Research Office asked students to give feedback on their experiences with Student Services programs. We want to thank students who took the time and effort to share their experiences with us. Below are highlights of what students told us they wanted and what ARC Student Services are doing toward meeting those needs.

Students told us they wanted more and better communication and advertising of services and programs with better explanations and examples of what services are provided. Here is what some of our programs have been doing:

  • Counseling hired a Specialist who is helping to get more accurate information out to students more often.
  • Beaver Cares hired a social media and outreach staff member to improve advertising and make classroom presentations.
  • EOP&S and TRIO SSS Journey regularly update their websites with accurate information and participate in outreach activities to promote the programs.
  • TRIO SSS Journey uses social media and email and calling campaigns for general outreach and to support participants in the program.

This April, students will have another opportunity to give their feedback about ARC Student Services programs in the annual Student Satisfaction with ARC Support Services survey. The survey will be distributed via emails from the ARC Research Office. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey.
