If you have a topic you are interested in addressing then we encourage you to submit a resolution for consideration by the IAFP Board of Directors. Survey on Firearms Safety
Researchers from the University of Iowa Firearm Safety Team invite you to complete an anonymous survey study titled, “An Evaluation of Providers' Confidence in Firearm Safety and Attitudes on Firearm Related Issues.” If you complete the survey, you can enter a raffle to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Twenty-five individuals who complete the survey will be selected as raffle winners.  The study will consist of an online survey of resident, fellow, and attending physicians as well as mid-level providers (Physician Assistants [PAs] and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners [ARNPs]) across the state of Iowa. The study will examine the association between provider demographics such as age, sex, previous employment/life experience and confidence in firearm counselling with current firearm screening practices.

Call for Nominations for
New Physician Award

This award is to recognize a new physician who has made a significant contribution to the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians and Family Medicine.

Criteria for the award are:
  • Been in family medicine practice for 7 years or less.
  • Is in involved in direct patient care.
  • Is an IAFP member in good-standing .
  • Has taken an active role in IAFP activities which include at least 3 of the following:
  • AAFP/IAFP committee membership
  • AAFP/IAFP CME participation
  • AAFP/IAFP annual meeting attendance
  • IAFP legislative coffee attendance
  • AAFP/IAFP leadership role or position preceptor
  • Has been involved in their community

Nominations:
May be received annually from an IAFP active member.

Social Justice Discussion Club

The Health Equity & Social Justice Discussion Club is a safe and respectful virtual space to discuss important literature and virtual content on topics of social justice and health equity all from the comfort of your home or office.

Guided conversations will provide unique opportunities for insightful reflection and open minded sharing with your peers. Each session will take place via Zoom under the guidance of a physician moderator. Only three more sessions are available for the 2022 year.

Need state mandated CME? IAFP is offering state mandated CME courses on Chronic Pain & End of Life Care on-demand. See below for more information and registration.

Iowa-licensed physicians are required to complete 2 hours of Category 1 credits for chronic pain management and 2 hours of Category 1 credits for end-of-life care every five years. These requirements became effective August 17, 2011, are for physicians who provide primary care to patients (e.g., emergency physicians, family physicians, general practice physicians, internists, neurologists, pain medicine specialists, and psychiatrists.)
