Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This week, members of my Office and I joined communities across the Borough to commemorate National Night Out Against Crime. Every year we gather with our friends and neighbors to reaffirm our commitment to keeping each other safe from crime in our streets.

I stand proudly with our law enforcement partners, community organizations, cure-violence programs, and youth groups in our joint mission to protect and empower the people that we serve.

As the District Attorney for Queens County of New York, I seek justice on behalf of all victims of crime, regardless of immigration status or financial means. Since the beginning of my administration, I have also made it a priority to implement meaningful crime prevention efforts and youth development services to ensure that our young people never become part of the criminal justice system.

I want you all to know that my Office is always here to help. For more information about any of the services we offer, please call us at 718.286.6000 or email info@queensda.org.
In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
Select Cases of Interest
  • Long Island man indicted for stealing Queens Village home from deceased brother by posing as his sole heir
  • Queens man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide for crash that killed mother and daughter
  • Brooklyn man sentenced to 18 years in prison for manslaughter in 2021 St. Albans shooting death
National Black Prosecutors Association
It was an honor to join colleagues from across the country for the National Black Prosecutors Association conference. During the conference, I participated in a panel discussion on "The Prosecutorial Road Less Traveled: A Community Based Approach" along with District Attorneys Flynn Broady, Jr. of Cobb County, Georgia and Brian Middleton of Fort Bend County, Texas.

The importance of community engagement in the criminal justice system cannot be overstated. The first time an individual has contact with my Office should not take place in a courtroom or in the face of tragedy. It takes a true partnership to implement meaningful reform and keep our Borough thriving.
Information Wanted
It has been 38 years since the death of Helen Brock, shot and killed during a home invasion in Bayside, Queens. Though cases may grow cold, they are never forgotten.

As part of our regular call for help, we are seeking any information regarding this incident. If you have any details to report, I urge you to contact NYPD Crimestoppers. All tips are confidential and can be submitted anonymously!
Peace Over Profit
A community-based organization Peace Over Profit, in partnership with the 103rd Police Precinct, hosted their inaugural "Fun Day, Safe Day" family event for the residents of South Jamaica Houses last weekend.

I was glad to stop by and speak to the attendees about their concerns as well as share resources provided by my Office.
Cambria Heights Senior BBQ
The NYPD's Community Affairs Bureau, in collaboration with the Alpha Phil Alpha Senior citizens Center, recently hosted a Senior Block Party and BBQ for the elderly residents of Cambria Heights.

The event, attended by members of my Community Partnerships Division, was filled with good food, great music, and important conversations on staying safe this summer.
Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
The oldest and largest Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in United States takes place right here in Queens and it was a special privilege to attend the 30th anniversary of this great event.

I thank the Chairman, Mr. Henry Wan, for having me come by and speak to the audience about the importance of upholding our Borough's multi-cultural celebrations.
World Day Against Trafficking
This past weekend marked World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a day to stand in solidarity with the victims and uphold the human right to freedom.

Our dedicated Human Trafficking Bureau utilizes a victim-centered approach to investigate and prosecute sex and labor trafficking crimes while also connecting survivors with support to enable them to safely escape their situations.

If you or anyone you know may be a victim, reach out by emailing HumanTrafficking@queensda.org or calling 718.286.6548. We're here to help.
