Sponsor an Oneg Shabbat
Our Temple Emanuel Oneg Shabbat dessert receptions are opportunities for our community to come together and enjoy the sweetness of Shabbat with conversation and refreshments every Friday after services.
We invite you to sponsor an Oneg Shabbat in honor of your family and friends. Gather your friends, Chavurot, social groups, committees, clubs, or family to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, weddings, graduations, new babies, a loved one’s accomplishments, or any happy occasion - or just to celebrate being alive!

From Your Board of Trustees: A Culture of Belonging | |
Dear Temple Emanuel Community,
Last Fall, during our High Holiday Appeal, our Board of Trustees introduced the strategic priority of creating a Culture of Belonging to our congregation. Belonging is about not being alone. It is based on the principle that humans are hard-wired to thrive when we are in mutually supportive communities. The pandemic exacerbated the challenge of having a sense of place for many, a
sense of home, a sense of belonging. Creating a Culture of Belonging has the ultimate goal of building community to address the need for creating deeper connections.
Faith communities value deep connection, caring, and mutual support. As the next step towards our strategic goal, we have embarked on The Belonging Project, in collaboration with the Union of Reform Judaism (URJ), the National Center for Jewish Learning and Leadership (CLAL) and Springtide Research Institute. Temple Emanuel is excited to be a part of this very first scientifically-based, quantitative study of belonging in the Jewish community. Over the next six months, our synagogue’s Belonging Project team will learn more about our congregants and their current experience of belonging, helping us create experiences, programs and services designed to increase congregational belonging.
We need your help! The first step is to gather our Belonging Index, and we will do that through a short survey.
The Belonging Index is the research-based congregational survey that CLAL has created in partnership with the Springtide Research Institute. It ascertains to what degree congregants feel:
● Noticed (it matters that they are there)
● Named (people know their name and something
about them)
● Known (they are able to share their full selves)
● Needed (they contribute to building the community)
Your responses to this short 10 minute survey will help us understand how we can continue to do a better job creating a Culture of Belonging at Temple Emanuel. This data will help us to continue to build on the insights we have gained from the Congregational Survey we sent out in December. If you didn’t fill out that survey, no problem. We need as many people to fill this out as possible. No private or contact information is requested.
Here is our survey link!
https://su.vc/emanuel-tempe
The survey is open through March 24th.
Thank you for your participation and for being a part of our community. Temple Emanuel belongs to all of us!
L ’Shalom,
Temple Emanuel of Tempe Board of Trustees

Saturday Morning Shabbat Worship led by Rabbi Cookie Lea Olshein
10:30 am | Live and Interactive on Zoom
*ONLINE ONLY*
Meeting ID: 881 7402 8792 | Passcode: Torah
During our informal (and interactive) Shabbat Morning worship, we will dig deeper into the meaning of our traditional prayers and liturgical music, while including modern, interpretative versions that will challenge our understanding of our tradition, as well as a short Torah reading. Each week, we will include a prayer for healing and recitation of the Mourner's Kaddish in case you would like to share your personal prayers for those we love who are struggling and those we have lost.
This service works well for both the inexperienced pray-er as well as those well-versed in our prayer tradition (all liturgy, including English readings and transliteration, will be projected on screen).

Religious School - In Session
Welcome Back!
|
Today we inform you that Adrienne Swedlove has decided to step down from her Interim Managing Director role with Temple Emanuel. We are grateful for the time and dedication she gave to our community over the past few months. Her leadership and professionalism with the Purim carnival was especially incredible. Thank you, Adrienne!
Adrienne came out of retirement to help bridge the need in our community while we reassessed our staffing needs. While I can't share the details, Adrienne is stepping down for health reasons. Shmirat haguf (taking care of one’s body) is one of Judaism’s core values, and we wholeheartedly support Adrienne's decision to do so.
As we said at our mid-year financial meeting last week, we are a loving community dedicated to ensuring vibrant reform Jewish life in the East Valley. We have a team of Temple Emanuel staff, clergy, Board and volunteers who will continue to care for our community.
We are actively working to rebuild a professional team that best supports our congregational needs. If you are willing to take on any temporary volunteer support roles while we do, we certainly have a need. Please reach out to me at President@EmanuelOfTempe.org.
As we move forward, let's keep Adrienne in our prayers, and let's also look forward to the ways that Adonai will continue to guide and bless our community.
Shalom,
Karen Kahn, President
Board of Trustees
