LAST CHANCE:
Nominate DCIS Alumni for the Gala Awards
Each year, the DCIS Foundation gives the Nina McGibney Alumni Award during its annual Gala. Typically, there are about 200 people in attendance to hear their stories and listen to their acceptance speeches. Everyone agrees, it is the most heartwarming part of the Gala.

We have an impressive set of nominations already, but we look forward to getting more from alumni, parents, teachers, and our community.

Past Award Winners (pictured here):
2022 Gala:
Mario Romero (CIS 1997, future board member)
Nick Golden (DCIS 2014)

2021 Gala:
Gianina Horton (DCIS 2010, current board officer)
Eliza Cummings (DCIS 2013)

CIS and DCIS Alumni are the heart and soul of the DCIS community and many have already made a significant impact on the world around them. We highlight many alumni stories on a regular basis on our website and in print newsletters.

What qualities are we looking for?
1) a clear dedication to local and/or global civic engagement and experiences - a visionary citizen
2) a personal commitment to learning, sharing, equity, diversity, and inclusion - a lifetime learner & leader
3) a career trajectory that contributes positively to the world around them - a role model

FAQs:
1) When is the award given? At the Gala on Sat., April 22, 2023, 6 pm
2) Does a nominee need to live in Colorado? No
3) Will there be two winners? Yes
4) What does the winner receive? A solid crystal custom engraved trophy, two free VIP tickets to the Gala for themselves and one guest ($500 value), visibility in all the DCIS Foundation communication (including website and e-marketing), time for a brief acceptance speech, and DCIS community respect and admiration. It's kind of a big deal - and a great addition to any resume.

JUSTICE MILES (Class of 2012)
Choreographer/Dancer/Scholar presents Soul of Flowers
Wed. April 15, 4:30 pm, King Concert Hall, MSU, Free to the Public
As Artist in Residence for the Department of Music’s Music, Race & Social Justice Visiting Artist Series (Metro State University), Justice Miles (DCIS Baker class of 2012) will present her work Soul of Flowers. Inspired by botanical research and JJ Grandville’s The Flowers Personified, a novel about flowers that turn into humans and exhibit different personality traits based on Victorian floral symbolism, Soul of Flowers presents vignettes of different flowers’ lives that are symbolic of human emotions. Featuring guest appearances from classical music duo Solazur, Miles will take the audience on a multi-disciplinary journey of mood, color, dance vocabulary, music, and poetic text that boldly explores the soul. With movement vocabulary ranging from flamenco to contemporary dance to a soundtrack ranging from flamenco to classical music to R&B, Soul of Flowers is a dynamic work that seeks to celebrate diversity and the human spirit. Note: If anyone wants to meet there, email Theresa @ dcisfoundation@gmail.com so we can sit together.
Celebrating Guatemala & Central America
Our Gala is Saturday, April 22, 2023, 6:00 - 8:30 pm

Last year's Gala was SOLD OUT so you'll want to reserve your seat. What's new? New venue, new ticket options, new programming, new award winners, and a lot of chatting, music, and dancing. ¡Excelente!
Last year's Gala raised $35,000 in school funding for intercultural travel and excursions for our remarkable DCIS students. It was successful due to our volunteers, board of directors, and the dedicated DCIS community. Pictured here are Carol Martin, Carol Tobiassen, and DCIS Alumni Rebecca Lipman greeting our guests as they entered.
DENVER CENTER for INTERNATIONAL STUDIES FOUNDATION's mission is to raise money for DCIS schools to increase frequency and equity for student intercultural education and integrated travel experiences. We have been helping DCIS create global citizens since 1997.
