Convention Center News and Views
April 2022
Greetings,

We are energized to start 2022 on a high-note as we move forward with our mission of economic development for Orange County and prioritize the safety of our employees, clients, attendees and exhibitors.

From January to March, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) welcomed 34 events, generating an estimated $665 million in economic impact with approximately 304,405 attendees – positioning us for a very strong economic recovery.

In January, the 2022 PGA Merchandise Show returned to the Center hosting 15,000 attendees for an estimated $38.5 million economic impact. Later in February, we were elated to welcome back the co-located International Builders Show and Kitchen and Bath Industry Show for Design and Construction Week. Together, Design Week welcomed approximately 70,000 attendees and nearly $180 million in economic impact. To round out the quarter, the 2022 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition returned to Center with visits from 29,000 global healthcare and technology community members.

In February and March, we saw a significant increase in attendance compared to previous months and remain optimistic as we continue to work with our clients on their evolving needs. According to the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), by the end of 2023, the trade show and exhibition industry is expected to fully recover – and I believe we are well positioned to continue leading the industry’s recovery.

Additionally, we are pleased to present our 2020-2021 Annual Report, which highlights our milestones and accomplishments from our last fiscal year. Our outstanding full-time staff have all risen to the occasion and we have been able to maintain our high level of customer service. We are actively recruiting and excited to get staffing levels closer to pre-pandemic levels.

Together, we continue to navigate our calendar to ensure that we provide value to the surrounding community, while also offering a safe and responsible environment for attendees, clients and employees. We are thankful for the ongoing support, trust and flexibility of our clients, partners and guests as we continue to move forward and do Business Better Than Usual.
