AVID Tutors Needed For Mondays & Wednesdays
The Pen High AVID program is looking to hire a few more AVID tutors for Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 to 12:15. Applicants must be a high school graduate and working towards a college degree (okay if they are taking a semester / year off) or have completed college.  Pay rate is $15.75/hr.

A great AVID tutor is someone with a solid understanding of a few high school level courses.  Some of our AVID tutors are strong in math & science while others are strong in English or a foreign language.  Being an AVID tutor is a very fun and engaging job. It is an especially great job and resume builder for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in education (teaching, counseling, school admin).

If interested, please contact Mike Spalding at:  [email protected].

PVPHS Speech Update
Peninsula hosted the fifth annual Peninsula Invitational speech and debate tournament last weekend. The tournament was held online using the NSDA Campus digital platform because of COVID-19.

There were fourteen hundred, forty-three participants from one hundred, sixty-one schools and twenty-six states, the Dominican Republic, and Taiwan. In five years the event has grown into one of the nation's largest academic competitions hosted by a high school.

This was the first year no major debate event was won by a school from California. The policy debate division was won by Glenbrook South High School in Illinois. The Lincoln-Douglas division was won by Southlake-Carroll high school in Texas. The public forum division was won by Glen Rock high school in New Jersey.

South Bay Families Connected: Focus on youth wellness

Finally, after a full year of distance learning, some students have, understandably, experienced the return to in-person learning as a social challenge. PVPUSD partner South Bay Families Connected (SBFC), a network of 115 schools in the South Bay, has organized Teaching Social Skills: Resources for Parents and Guardians, which contains a video featuring students at local schools, including PVPHS’s own Rhys Moon and Amanda Rucker, sharing their perspectives regarding the social ups and downs of returning to in-person learning. There you will also find some useful tips to support your children and teens as they develop and refine their own social skills. For related resources, please visit the SBFC Healthy Relationships Page. The SBFC Virtual Teen Center contains a wide variety of mental health and wellness topics. To see more youth wellness resources provided by PVPUSD and SBFC, please visit our own PVPUSD Families Connected
Sincerely,

Dr. Brent Kuykendall
