Folsom-based startup EV Life is launching a pilot with Nissan to offer EV Climate Loans for new Nissan LEAFs exclusively in the Sacramento Region. Starting December 1, customers can apply for a Climate Loan for their EV incentives and save up to $200/month on auto loan payments.

SMUD Incentive
SMUD’ Charge@Home incentive program began on December 8 and lasts until February 28, 2022. SMUD residential customers who have purchased or leased a new or used EV may quality for up to $500 for the purchase of a Level 2 charger and up to $500 for installation by a licensed electrician.

CalGreen Building Codes
The California Building Standards Commission approved updates to the CalGreen Building Codes for EV infrastructure in new construction for commercial, multi-family homes, hotels and motels. These will become mandatory on January 1, 2023.
Hotels, Motels, Apartments, Condos with 20 or more units:
  • 40% of parking spaces have EV infrastructure (10% EV Capable, 25% EV Ready, 5% have EVSEs)
  • Optional Tier 1: 55% of spaces (10% EV Capable, 35% EV Ready, 10% have EVSEs
  • Optional Tier 2: 65% of spaces (10% EV Capable, 40% EV Ready, 15% have EVSEs)
Non-Residential
  • 20% of parking spaces to have EV infrastructure (15% EV Capable, 5% EVSEs)
  • Optional Tier 1: 30% of spaces (20% EV Capable, 10% EV Ready)
  • Optional Tier 2: 45% of spaces (30% EV Capable, 15% EV Ready)

Advanced Clean Cars Rule
CARB has posted the Advanced Clean Car Regulation (ACC II) updated language to reduce criteria and GHG emissions from new light- and medium-duty vehicles after 2025, including additional standards for IC vehicles and many new standards for charging, batteries and labeling for EVs.

EV Energy Consumption
An analysis done in the Netherlands on the energy consumption of EVs has ranked 66 EVs from “A” being the lowest energy required per mile traveled to “G” being the most energy required per mile traveled.. (Note: A quick check of the curb weights shows the vehicles ranked “A” weigh around 3,400 lb. whereas the vehicles ranked “G” weigh around 7,100 lb., so this analysis should not be construed as a measure of the efficiency of the drivetrain.)
