4th Sunday of Lent

Ordinary Time - Cycle B

To know the Holy Spirit and Live the Life of Christ

Friends,

Discipleship

You’re on the hook. And you can never get off the hook! Why are you on the hook? Because you are baptized! You are baptized to become fully alive in Christ! And the moment you are baptized, you are commissioned by Jesus to become his disciple. Our mission statement here at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is to know the power of the Holy Spirit and live the life of Christ. If we are truly living the life of Christ, that will get us to Matthew 28:19 where Jesus commands us, “Go, therefore make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

A disciple is one who shares the life of Christ with others at every chance they get! Just think about how many chances we have every day to share Jesus with others. Do we share or are we ashamed? And in all our sharing and conversations and interactions do we actually think what we are talking about is more important than the life Jesus gave us on the Cross? In the end, what else is there?

We must remember that our end could be today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. So what is our end? Life in Christ! Or not. Hence, see how utterly urgent and infinitely significant it is to share Christ with others- TODAY! TODAY might be the only chance you get to share Jesus with someone. TODAY might be that person‘s last day on earth. And what if that person does not know Jesus? Surely, we do not want them separated from the life of God for eternity. That would be the worst reality! Disciples want to take people from the worst reality to the best reality which is unending life with God in heaven. That is what disciples are consumed with doing. That is the heartbeat of all they think, say and do. It is their passion, zeal, fire, and reason for existence! Fellow baptized friend, that is what you are called to do! No excuses or rationalizations are allowed. Christ wants you fully engaged in spreading salvation. TODAY. Every day, all day.

We want to become laser good, excellent, wise, and focused on discipleship. To that end, I wholeheartedly invite you to our parish-wide Discipleship Retreat at Whispering Winds from March 31 through April 2. Jesus has poured out so much love and power in our community, but he wants us to become much more focused on what to do with all his love and power! The best way to become a disciple is to be around other disciples who want to become better disciples and that’s exactly what we were doing on this retreat. it is for all ages and married or singles and we want you to come so that we can be one in purpose! There is no greater excitement, adventure, or fascination that you could ever have in life. Let us come together to learn how to share the mercy and love and joy and heaven that Jesus has called us to share with every last person on the face of this earth. That is what being a disciple is all about and that is who you are!

You’re on the hook and there’s no getting off the hook. It’s time to step up to the plate. Focus on these questions: What is the end for me and others? Could today be the end? Will the end be the worst reality or the best reality?

TODAY- Will you decide to be the very best disciple that you can be? Will you let Jesus consume you in the fire of his Divine Love and use you to lead as many people as you can to heaven in your brief time here on earth? Will you become laser-focused on this one purpose of your existence? I am praying that you’ll become Jesus’ fire 🔥 to so many who are shivering and shaking in the cold at the prospect of the worst reality. Become fire🔥! Come to the Discipleship Retreat.
