Another Film Day Success!

Thank you to those that participated in the 2023 (Virtual) Film Day on Monday, March 13th. With over 63 meetings scheduled with elected officials, the film industry showed up in full force to thank the legislature for increased funding and to remind them that film is an incredible investment in the economy and our communities. If you participated in virtual meetings and have not yet submitted your feedback via our online form, please spend a few minutes to share what you heard. And don’t forget to email your elected officials to thank them for their time. (You can find their contact information online here.)

With COVID lingering in the hearts and minds of elected officials, we scaled back our presence in Olympia this year but still made a BIG IMPACT. While safety protocols meant we missed seeing our film industry friends at the Capitol, a handful of Washington Filmworks’ staff and film industry professionals brought their “A Game” to the Columbia Room to offer elected officials a film set experience with “Glamour and Gore.” Thanks to hair and make-up artists, Luce Cousineau and Akemi Hart, for making Angela DiMarco (our glam gal) and David Hogan (our gory guy) the center of attention for photo ops with elected officials and legislative aides. Not to be missed, Washington Filmworks’ very own Vice Chair of the Board, John Cooper, made the cut in several photos as the dead lobbyist.

(Check out THESE PHOTOS and the fabulous costumes and photo props by our very own Ron Leamon.)

Elected officials were also treated to a film set style lunch catered by none other than Miller’s Daughter. And as folks walked out the door they picked up those classic Keep Film in WA buttons and an array of movie candy.

If you weren’t able to schedule a meeting with your legislator on Film Day, take the time to write to your Senator and Representatives to tell them why you think it’s important to support the film industry. You can find their email address on the Keep Film in WA Site here. Don’t know who your elected officials are? Check out this district finder.
