Summer Outreach Ministry

“Summertime, … and the livin’ is easy.” But summertime is not so easy for the more than 8,600 Forsyth County low-income students who lose access to breakfast, lunch and after-school meals. Please help these kids by purchasing food items (suggested below) and placing them in the brown wicker basket in the Narthex. Needed items include: pancake mix and syrup, tomato soup, single serve snack crackers, variety pack of cold breakfast cereals, pack of individual applesauce or fruit cups, single -serve cups of shells and cheese, 1-pound packages of rice and/or pasta, cans of tuna or chicken. Your food donations will be transported weekly to The Place. If you have any questions about this program or have an interest in learning more about The Place, please contact Tom Dillon (770-888-3073).

Sunday School Teachers

Needed this Fall

Consider teaching Sunday school this coming Fall. Our children and teenage ministries are central to the life of our parish. So many great experiences take place in the classroom, where children begin to develop a faith in God through the ministry of our Sunday school teachers. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and the Middle/High School programs thrive through the gifts of time and talent our teachers share each week.

Please consider if God may be calling you to be part of our team of teachers. We need a dozen adults to help lead these programs that will resume in September. If you have questions, please speak with Kristen Weems (email), the director of our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, or Father Tripp (email).

Note About Sunday's Music

Ralph (pronounced “Rafe”) Vaughan Williams was one of the most prolific English composers of the last century. He composed in many genres from operas to film scores. Among his output of church music are the well-known hymn tunes Salve festa dies (“Hail Thee, Festival Day”), Sine Nomine (“For All the Saints”), and Down Ampney (“Come Down, O Love Divine”). Vaughan Williams composed today’s Prelude on Rhosymedre in 1920 as the second of Three Preludes Founded on Welsh Hymn Tunes. The hymn tune Rhosymedre was composed by Welsh Anglican priest John David Edwards and was named for the town in northeastern Wales where he served as vicar from 1843 until 1885. In our hymnal, this tune appears with the text “Our Father by Whose Name all Fatherhood Is Known.” Vaughan Williams’ beautiful setting is one of the essential pieces of the organ repertoire, and it has been brought to a wider audience through an arrangement for orchestra.
