Dear Community,

We continue to update our Covid protocols based on current developments and consultation with our physician advisors. It is our desire to continue to respond in the most responsible way and be flexible to changes based on data points by increasing our precautions when needed and lifting them up when safe.

In that spirit, as Covid cases, wastewater indicators, and test positivity — although still dramatically lower than during the omnicron surge — are up, we are updating our Covid Protocols in response. In keeping with our current “mask optional'' approach, you are always welcome to choose to wear a mask at any time, no questions asked or explanations needed.  In light of the current metrics, as of Friday, April 15 (next Shabbat and Pesach) masks will be required for everyone when entering the building.

Updated Protocols beginning April 15

Masks Required

TBZ will temporarily return to requiring masks for all who enter TBZ (Services, programs, meetings, etc).

While in the building everyone must wear masks fully covering nose and mouth at all times. Once again we strongly encourage surgical or KN95 masks, as they are much more effective than cloth masks (and easier to ensure consistency). We have masks available at the door if you need one, but we ask that you please remember to bring your own — this will reduce how much we need to spend on masks. Our greeters may ask you to “switch out” to a surgical mask as you arrive — thank you for your cooperation.

Vaccines and Boosters Required
TBZ has and continues to require that everyone entering the building, who is eligible for vaccination, be fully vaccinated AND with at least one booster. This policy is not flexible. If you are inviting guests to TBZ, please remind them of this policy.

No restrictions regarding Capacity Limits:
We are not changing our restrictions regarding capacity limits.  Given our ultra-violet disinfection fans, HEPA filters, air exchanges through window and door ventilation, and mask and vaccine requirements, our Sanctuary and other building spaces can be open safely without restricting the numbers.

Kiddush
Starting on Saturday, April  16, we will ask all people to remain masked while serving themselves food or while walking through the Community Room space. People may remove their masks while sitting and eating.  Some of the food will continue to be served in individual portions to avoid lines and lack of social distancing. UV Fans and windows will be open in the Community Room. You are also invited to use our outdoor spaces, especially as spring blooms and the weather gets warmer!

Multi-Access (Zoom & Streaming) Will Continue
As always we are committed to including all those who are not yet ready to come back in-person offering multi-access programming. We will continue to stream services on Zoom and Youtube.

We recognize that COVID remains dynamic and unpredictable.  We are encouraged that it appears the current vaccines continue to be effective against the new BA.2 variant. We hope and expect this ramp-up to be temporary and are ready to decrease protection and go back to mask-optional once the situation changes. As epidemiologists have noted, COVID protections, including masks, are like umbrellas. We need to use them when it is raining. When we have a stretch of sunshine, we can make them optional.

We also remind you that COVID transmission, as well as flus, colds and other illnesses, impact those around you. If you or your child are not feeling well, please do not come to services. We will continue to have services on-line through YouTube and Zoom.

Thank you for supporting each other as we move forward.
